    The governing board of the N.C. Community College System recognized Beaufort County Community College's Academic Excellence Award winner at a ceremony held recently on the BCCC campus.

    Ann H. Whitford of Morehead City, a member of the State Community College Board, presented a medal and plaque to Brett D. Ange, a BCCC student from Jamesville, in recognition of his academic achievement. The presentation was made during BCCC's annual Graduate and Outstanding Student Recognition Ceremony attended by about 150 BCCC students, faculty and staff on Tuesday, April 23.

    In presenting the award, Whitford congratulated Ange on his hard work and wished him success as he begins his nursing studies at BCCC in the fall.

    The award presentation was also part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the creation of the State Community College System.

    Ange is enrolled in BCCC's associate in general education classes and has been accepted into BCCC's Associate Degree Nursing Program. A 2011 graduate of Riverside High School, he is the son of Cathy and Dwayne Ange of Jamesville. Ange has a 4.0 grade point average at BCCC.

    Dr. Dixon Boyles, dean of BCCC's Arts and Sciences Division, nominated Ange for the award and also presented him with a plaque during the ceremony.

    Ange was one of about 50 graduates who received awards recognizing them for achievement at the ceremony.
