Donors, recipients meet at Legacy Luncheon | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

The Beaufort County Community College Foundation on Tuesday, April 30, brought together about 75 of its donors, scholarship recipients, members of its Board of Directors and local business women and men who have supported Foundation events through the years at a Legacy Luncheon.

The luncheon was held on the BCCC campus Tuesday, April 30, and sponsored by Rod Cantrell, CFP®, who serves as an ex officio member of the BCCC Foundation Board of Directors.

The Pages donated money to establish the Louise and Dorsey Welch Scholarship in memory of Mrs. Page's parents. Woolard, who plans to pursue a career as a teacher, received the Welch Scholarship for the Fall 2012 semester. The three met at the BCCC Foundation's Legacy Luncheon: Below.

Since the Foundation was created in 1993, its assets have grown from $81,600 to almost $2 million in 2013, Cantrell told the group. As a result of the increase in funds in the past 20 years, the Foundation can "impact in a positive way" the future of the students who attend the community college and the community in which these students live and, ultimately work, he said.

"I encourage you all to stay active and keep giving," he said.

Scholarship recipients Isis James and William Wallace spoke to the group about the difference the scholarships they received have made in their lives.

"BCCC is a college for not only opportunity but also hope," James said. "I wonder where would I be if it were not for the scholarship from BCCC."

Wallace, who served as a BCCC Ambassador, said he will always be grateful to BCCC and donors to its Foundation "for helping me prepare for a new career path."

"I owe my future to Beaufort County Community College," he said.

Foundation Director Judy Jennette said she was pleased with the attendance at the luncheon and hopes to make a gathering of donors and scholarship recipients an annual event.
