ENCNow
Herbert "H.N." Jackson, 88, of Hamilton NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. The son of six children, he was born on December 6, 1934 to Maude Ausbon Jackson and Herbert Jackson of Beaufort County. H.N. is preceded in death by his parents and his young sister Betty Sue and his young brother Roger Dale.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of 66 years, Ellen Griffin Jackson; his three sisters, Irene Jackson of Williamston, Pauline Harrison of Hamilton and Eunice Hodges of Williamston; his two children, Brent Jackson (Dorothy) of Hamilton, Pamela Jackson Denton (Brantley) of Wake Forest; his three grandchildren, Gracie Denton, Jackson Denton and Hayden Denton; additionally, his nieces and nephews, Brad Griffin, Tara Griffin, Kent Manning, Wyndi Phillips, and Ricky Harrison.

H.N. had many titles... he was a loving and devoted husband, a caring son, an admired brother, a committed father, a fun-loving uncle, an appreciated father-in-law and a compassionate grandfather. He was a loyal friend and a helping neighbor. Nevertheless, each of these titles meant very little to him. He owned them honestly. Each was who he was. However, his most defining title...a loyal Christian. His entire life was based on his faith in Jesus Christ. In addition, because of his faith, every title placed by his name was noble and honorable.

H.N. followed a long history of farming. It was in his blood. He was good at it and he made a lifetime career tending the land on the farm. His understanding of what it took to be a good farmer afforded him the opportunity to travel across Eastern North Carolina and into Kentucky and Tennessee, where he proudly served as a ticket marker. Even with his retirement, one could still find him "at the farm" helping his son carry on the duties and task that needed attending to. He was unstoppable.

As a devout Christian, H.N. was not afraid to share his belief in God. He openly and willingly would talk about his daily walk in faith. His reliance in the Bible was unending. He studied the Bible without fail and would share his knowledge of what it meant to be a Christian with his family, especially his grandchildren. His passion for the Bible complimented his love for his church and the people that made up the church. He valued those relationships.

This past Thanksgiving, as we were gathered around, he shared with us what Heaven would be like. He was very descriptive. It brought joy to him, knowing that he was doing what God had called him to do. Moreover, he yearned for the day that he would meet his Creator face to face. This past Tuesday, what he had lived for all of his life became real for him. He leaves behind a legacy that years from today will create new generations to come. He laid the foundation for us to see him again. Therefore, H.N., we celebrate your life and how you influenced those you met. Your work on this earth has been completed. Matthew 25:23 remind us... "His Lord said to him... 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord." Until we meet again, find rest.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until the service begins at 2:00pm, Monday December 11, 2023, at Hamilton Baptist Church, 403 North Front Street, Hamilton NC 27840.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NC Baptist Children's Home.

Condolences may be addressed to the family online by visiting www.paulfuneralhome.com.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Jackson family.
