Possible Cause For Concern | Eastern NC Now

Questions about conflicts of interests and fiscal responsibility.

Dr. Jeff Moss - some may recognize this name as he was superintendent of our BCS for 5 years before becoming the superintendent Lee County NC. An incident occurred during one Lee County meeting where Moss took personal offense by a citizen’s concern over a mismanaged budget. I wonder why he got so worked up?

Moss was later superintendent of BCS SC, where many of his skeletons fell out the closet. He was accused of and reprimanded for nepotism, cronyism, and unethical conduct, thus he resigned.

Moss hired Hite Associates for school construction during his tenure in 2 different NC districts. He then hired them for the new construction of 2 schools in SC. He seemed to hire them no matter what district he worked for.

Hite Associates is the firm we hired for new school construction. Actually, it seems Hite Associates had the job before the funding ever occurred, with no competition from other firms. Hite Associates, as far as we know, is still involved in an ongoing FBI investigation.

Jimmy Hite - owner of Hite Associates. Is a board member of the private Oakwood School in Greenville.

    https://www.theoakwoodschool.org/about/leadership

The Oakwood school boasts about the outstanding success of their students, contributing it to their small class sizes among other things:

“Small class sizes and an engaging curriculum help facilitate the growth of each student and ignite a fervent curiosity for the world around them.”

    https://www.theoakwoodschool.org/why-oakwood/whyoakwood

Should a man who is on the board of a private school, be in charge of constructing public schools? It would appear he believes in small class sizes but at the same time he builds mega facilities for public students.

If he is invested in the success and profitability of a private school, then isn’t it a conflict of interest to be building public schools?

If we think 10 million is all the tax money it will cost for school construction, we may be gravely mistaken. According to the reports, Hite has a tendency to go over budget.

Another matter of ethics is Cheeseman’s standing as a National Advisor of the RTM Group. The same group that awarded him super of the year.

    https://www.rtmbgevents.com/advisory/west-education%2C-cio-%26-special-education-congress

RTM, simplified, is a marketing organization that sells educational resources to teachers and professionals.

Is it not a conflict of interest, when a person who has some authority over spending public money to purchase educational resources, also is the lobbying salesman for the educational resources bought?

There is a lot here, let us keep a close eye.
