Democrats' Super PAC army spending millions on "spoiler" candidates in GOP seats | Eastern NC Now

The Democrats' "Decoy Dan" Sullivan in Alaska is hardly the only dirty trick that Democrats are running this year.  They are also spending millions on "spoiler" third party candidates to try to peel off some of the conservative vote from the GOP.  They are using Super PACs', some recently created, to try to push these spoilers, who have no chance of winning, to split the Republican vote.  Known Democrat operatives are behind many of these operations.  These are appearing all over the country.

Here is the 1st District of North Carolina, the Democrats are running one such  operation, backing a nominal "Libertarian" who lives hundreds of miles from the district in Greensboro, NC.  This nominal "Libertarian" has frequently taken very liberal positions on many issues on his personal social media, but the Democrat PACs are sending out mailings to Republicans trying to push him as a conservative.

While Republicans could probably find places to do the same thing to the Democrats with Green Party candidates, the fact is that they are not.  This is a uniquely Democrat dirty trick, and it is not the first time they have done it.  They pulled the same thing with the same fake "Libertarian" in the 1st district two years ago, and it was the only thing that sent Don Davis back to Congress.  Hopefully voters will be smarter this year.

Libertarians are a strange breed of cat, with some policies that are consistent with Republicans and some with Democrats.  For decades, it was the "right Libertarians" who focused on issues in common with Republicans that ran the party, but in recent years, the party has been dominated by those whose positions are mostly in common with the Democrats, the "left Libertarians"  The 2024 Libertarian nominee for president was a die-hard left Libertarian, as is their spoiler in the 1st district.  Indeed, he has even called himself a spoiler candidate on social media.

Meanwhile, in Alaska, the fake Dan Sullivan aka "Decoy Dan" quietly disappeared from his home town a couple of days before the New York Times broke the scandal.  Interesting connections have emerged such as the fact that Democrat candidate Mary Pertola visited Decoy Dan's remote and hard to reach home town two days before Decoy Dan filed in the race.  It has also emerged that the only consultant used by Decoy Dan was also working for a Democrat campaign group running ads against the real Dan Sullivan, which smacks of illegal collusion in violation of campaign finance laws.  The New York Times has also documented the involvement of shady partisan Democrat legal hack Marc Elias in the Decoy Dan caper.  Renowned legal expert Jonathan Turley has written that there are likely some serious violations of criminal law in the Decoy Dan scam.
