Natural gas has nothing to do with it. As Duke Energy clearly said, their double digit rate increase is due to using solar and wind, which are more expensive and require a lot more infrastructure changes. They are also intermittant sources that must be backed up when they are not producing with power bought at expensive prices on the spot market.

Having worked in state government in the department that oversaw those hospitals, you have at best a half truth. It was the left saying that it was more humane to put most of the mental patients out on the streets responsible for the major downsising of mental hospitals. Tht fact that the Democrats who then controlled federal spending because they controlled Congress did start cutting funds played some role, but the ultimate decision was made at the state level, and that again was by the Democrat Jim Hunt admnistration, backed by a Democrat controlled legislature.

OUr taxes are too high and Beaufort County taxpayers need a reduction badly. Unfortunately, we have a spendthrift liberal county manager who wants to spend like a drunken sailor, and a trans-partisan big spending coalition which wants to let him.

The commissioners need to do the cutting. Leaving it up to those who really do not want to cut anything, like our spendthrift county manager, does not work well. Such people historically tend to cut bone and muscle, not fat, because they want to do things that taxpayers do not want. Commissioners need to zero in on the fluff in our budget, and there is a lot of it, and make the surgical cuts in the right places. That stupid $90,000 spin doctor should be at the top of the list.

Mental hospitals have always been a state function, NOT a federal function. The left thought it was better and more humane to put the inmates out on the street. The major downsizing of mental health hospitals in North Carolina occured during the administration of Democrat Governor Jim Hunt. The drunks and drug addicts were previously the long term homeless, and this added a big new component to them.
Commented: Sunday, February 5th, 2023 @ 12:11 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
Those homeless in past years would have been housed in mental health facilities, but the left decided it was more "humane" to turn them out on the streets. Besides the mentally ill, most of the rest are drug addicts.

If you want to see how fascist "democratic socialism" is, I suggest you read "The New Totalitarians" by Roland Huntford, a British journalist. It peels back the curtain on socialist Sweden.

It is funny how the biased MSM always amplifies false Democrat claims about the GOP cutting Medicare, but now when Biden and the Democrats are actually moving to do it, they are silent. The MSM are propagnadists, not journalists. And where is the liberal AARP?

It is good to see European political parties standing up to the climate crazies that are hell bent on massively jacking up our electric rates on both sides of the Atlantic. The idiot RINO leadership in the NC legislature, Berger and Moore, are very much on the wrong side of this as they side with Biden and Al Gore, and could take a lesson from Austria's Freedom Party. Our own RINO state senator, Jim Perry has been little more than Greta Thunberg without the skirt on this issue, which is shameful.

Another issue of huge concern to conservatives is the Obamacare Medicaid expansion, which RINOs are trying to sell us out to the special interests on. So far the House is standing firm against it, with Keith Kidwell one of those helping hold the line. Sellout mania is terrbie in the Senate, and one of the ringleaders of it is RINO Jim Perry wno (mis)represents Beaufort County in the Senate. Both RINO legislative "leaders" PHil Berger in the Senate and Tim Moore in the House are all-in on selling out to Roy Cooper, the Democrats, and the special interests on Obamacare Medicaid expansion. Republicans in the General Assembly need new leadership who will work for Republican principles, not for Democrats and special interests, and this district needs a new state senator who is not a whore to the special interests like Perry is.

Nothing seems to have been revealed about how much this curriculum costs, which should be a consideration in which course to choose. Also, other options should be presented to the school board. It is arrogant by the administration to present only one on a take it or leave it basis. The content of this curriculum is of great concern, but cost should also be considered. The school board should have more than one course to choose between. The more the merrier, and the better to compare both content and cost. The superintendant seems to be usurping th duties of the school board and trying to turn them into a rubber stamp. The school board should not stand for this and neither should the voters.

The way climate alarmists play games by deliberately fudging the numbers was first esposed by the Climategate emails but also by Mann's fake "hockey stick curve" chart. EVERY dire warning they have ever made that has past the date it was supposed to happen, HASN'T, and there have been dozens of them. These clowns are nothing but a doomsday cult dressed up by science fiction and many of them are doing it to rake in money or accumulate power or prestige.

Exxon, thanks to the interference of Larry Fink (apt last name) of Blackrock, now has 3 climate crazies on their board, so any of their "math" is probably of the Common Core variety - where 2 + 2 can be anything you want it to be. It is great to see many states pulling their pension funds (and the shares of stock they represent) out of "woke" Blackrock so they will not be used for political purposes like Fink did at Exxon.

Natural warming and cooling cycles have nothing to do with emissions of anything. In fact, they are mostly driven by the sun. They have happened as long as the Earth has existed, and will continue as long as it does. The far left is getting its panties in a twist over a fake issue.

In fact, some predictions on solar cycles point to a cooling period starting in the not too distant future.

I feel sorry for the true believers in the climate alarmist myth that is in particular being drummed into school children. At least in the UK, the British High Court ruled that Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" movie is a propaganda film containing multiple misttatements of fact and ordered that it not be shown to school children without disclaimers of those things.

Natural climate change IS real. It changes every year between winter, spring, summer, and fall. It is cold in winter, hot in summer, and warm in spring and fall. Then there are the longer natural climate cycles running multiple centuries. We came out of the last natural colling cycle, known to climatologists as the Little Ice Age or Maunder Minimum in the 19th century and have been in a natural warming cycle since. The last natural warming cycle, the Medieval Warm Period was warmer than it is today. The longest natural warming cycle, the Holocene Maximum, lasted three thousand years and was much warmer than today.

Manmade global warming? That is just leftwing political poppycock, now being used by the globalists to try to scare people into giving up their freedoms. The immediate past president of the Czech Republic, Dr. Vaclav Klaus, wrote a very good book on that subject, "Blue Planet in Green Shackles: What is in jeopardy, climate or freedom?".

Oh, I know that the biggest doomsday cult in history, which ought to be called Climate Scientology, keeps trying to scare people with their dire predictions. But you know what? Dozens of their dire predictions have already passed the date they were supposed to happen, and not a single one of those dire predictions has actually come to pass. In fact, not a one of them was even close. With that record of false prophecies, only a blithering idiot would believe anything they have to say.

Exxon-Mobile? Larry Fink of ESG machine Blackrock inserted three climate crazies onto their board of directors at their last stockholder meeting, one of the reasons many states are withdrawing their pension funds from Blackrock. After that, anything they have to say on the subject is very highly suspect.

Commented on Slann strikes again

The city of Washington is using hundreds of thousands of local taxpayer dollars, with no state or federal contribution, to build low income houses in the city. This is a boondoggle and misuse of taxpayer money. It likely contributes to why the city had a tax increase of over 10% this year. I hope the county government is not going down the same big government path, but with Jerry Langley pulling fake "Republican" Frankie Waters puppet strings, it may well do so.

Carbon credits / offsets is one of the scams making climate alarmist kingpin Al Gore many millions of dollars. He is in a partnership in that business with an Englishman named Blood. So we have Blood and Gore selling carbon credits / offsets. You just can't make this stuff up!

Following the religious comparison in the post above, one could consider Al Gore to be the Pope of the pagan climate alarmist religious cult, and like medieveal Catholic Popes selling indulgences to allow their followers to sin, the new religious cult of climate alarmism is doing the same thing with their "Pope" Gore selling indulegences called carbon offsets.

SAVVAS was one of the companies whose textbooks were rejected by the state of Florida as being too woke. Why in the heck are they being proposed in Beaufort County?

And, Big Bob, the "woke" agenda of their attacks on history is extremely similar to Mao's Cultural Revolution in Red China. I guess you consider mass murderer Mao "a decent human being"?

Woke is also highly racist. If you are white, you are bad. If you are a white male, you are worse, and a heterosexual white male worse still. Worst of all in their woke racist world is a white male heterosexual Christian.

The real problem is that Phil Berger is OWNED by those woke corporations. He is showing it right now in trying to advance the major national and state Democrat priority of Obamacare Medicaid excpansion. Berger is doing that because he is captured by the liberal special interests, in this case, Big Medicine, and he is totally comfortable with giving Roy Cooper the biggest thing he has wanted since he became governor. Berger is willing to give a massive boost to Cooper's national political ambitions because it is what the "woke" special interests also want.

This is not the first time Phil Berger has sold out Republican voters to the "woke" liberal special interests. He did it last year to give Roy Cooper another of Cooper's big wishes, the NC Green New Deal, That also involved being a shill for "woke" special interests, in that case the very "woke" utility monopoly Duke Enegery plus the wind and solar grifters. This bill, HB951, royally screws NC electric ratepayers and represents following the Biden energy playbook and throwing away the Trump energy playbook.

Then there was the sellout to the LGBTQ crowd in repealing the bathroom privacy law, HB 2, another big demand of Roy Cooper. Berger sold his soul to the "woke" corporations demanding that we bow down to their radical gender ideology. The special interewsts wanted it, so Berger complied.

Berger is a political whore for the special interests, not a conservative. He is as bad as Marc Basnight was, and is the local equivalent of sell-ou Mitch McConnell in the US Senate. Undoubtedly, Berger has been well paid by the special interests for turning tricks for them in the legislature. He ought to mount a red light avove his office door in Raleigh.

Our former GOP state senator Bill Cook ran campaign ads against the Obamacare Medicaid expansion. Now, his RINO replacement Jim Perry of Kinston is in the hip pocket of Big Medicine and pushing this Democrat priority just as hard as he can.

Nationally, getting all states onboard the Obamacare Medicaid expansion is a big priorty of Democrats. It is disgusting to Republican voters that we have sell-out Special Interest Republicans in leadership positions in the General Assembly, Phil Berger and Tim Moore who are working as hard as the Democrats for this major Democrat priority. With "Republicans" like Berger and Moore, who even needs Democrats?

This is not the first time and probably will not be the last that Berger and Moore have betrayed Republican principles to do the bidding of the liberal special interests. This has also been a huge problem in DC with Mitch McConnell being one of the most shameless Special Interest Republicans around, and a parade of special interest Republicans like Boehner and Ryan heading House Repubilcans.

At least this time in the US Congress we had 20 heroes force McCarthy to make some commitments where he is supposed to actually function as a Republican for a change. His history in the past has always been as a special interest Republican. Where are our heroes in the General Assembly to whittle down the excessive control exercised by Berger and Moore? Do so many of them lack a full set of vertebrae?

Why bother to elect a Republican legislative majority if they are going to sell us out at every turn? Phil Berger is little more than a backwater Mitch McConnell and Tim Moore a backwater John Boehner. Why do we tolerate these backstabbing scoundrels?

At least it was encouraging to hear Rep. Keith Kidwell on WTIB speaking out against the Obamacare Medicaid expansion. Rank and file Republicans stopped it in the House last session, and hopefully they will have the backbone to do it again.

Berger and Moore are beneath contempt. THey have been doing Roy Cooper and the Democrats' bidding on issue after issue. They are not only Special Interest Republicans who sell us out to the special interests, but they are also Benedict Arnold Republicans who sell us out to the Democrats.

Yes, Bobby, we all know that there is a cycle every year where the climate changes. It is cold in winter, warm in spring, hot in summer, and warm in fall. It is the same every year and always has been. There are longer cycles running several centuries that are also well established. The Earth has been in a natural warming cycle since the end of the last cold cycle called the "Little Ice Age" in the 19th century, but is not yet as warm as the preceeding Medieval Warm Period, and much less warm than the longest and hottest of the warm cycles, the Holocene Maximum.

The climate alarmist cult is NOT an excuse to ignore our immigration laws.

Globalism is a totalitarian ideology, much like communism and fascism in the 20th century. The WEF's Klaus Schwab's "Great Reset" book is the equivalent of Karl Marx's "Communist Manifesto" and Adolph Hitler's "Mein Kampf". They are a huge threat to freedom. One of the WEF slogans is "you will own nothing and you will be happy".

The recent rolling blackouts on Christmas are a foretaste of what these greenie idiots - Cooper, Berger, and Moore - are bringing to North Carolina. Duke Eneergy has already prematurely closed some coal plants, including the one in Brunswick County just a few weeks before the rolling blackouts and that is why we do not have enough electricity. As they close more under their "carbon plan" it will just get worse. Intermittant sources of power like unreliable and expensive solar and wind power just do not cut the mustard. The only way to protect our electric ratepayers is to repeal HB951, which is more radical than the EU's climate crusade. North Carolina Republicans were sold down the river by Phil Berger and Tim Moore, and the writer of this article was right there working with Berger on this scam in the legislature.

This Log Cabin Republican is one of the ones pulling Locke to the left. HB951 is NC's Green New Deal, and contains no "brilliance". It is only "bipartisan" in that the establishment House and Senate "Republican" leadership of Moore and Berger sold out to the special interests and screwed the NC Republican base and NC electric customers. Duke Energy is as "woke" as it gets and is all in to the radical ESG nonsense, and they and the solar / wind grifters are who Berger and Moore sold us out to.

Locke is destroying its conservative reputation by hired a greenie like Bellievue.

This is probably designed to bleed over to illegal aliens as well. Already, there are probably way too many illegal aliens who Social Services has found ways to put on the welfare rolls, either through their children or otherwise, and that is sapping federal, state, anc county taxpayer funds. This needs to be stopped.

Commented on Great Expectations

I understand that our new conservative trio has been reaching out to some of the other board members in trying to find votes on key policy. I hope they are successful, and we start to see our School Board adopt a pro-parent position instead of being lapdogs of the school bureanracy. I agree that there is a lot to do and voters are anxious to start getting it done. If they can't find two other votes, there are going to be a lot more defeated incumbents in the 2024 cycle.

At the time, Speaker Moore's refusal to call the Parents Bill of Rights up for a vote was a real head scratcher. The votes were there in the House to pass it. It was election time. Sure, Cooper would probably veto it, but it put Democrat legislators on record on an issue where voters would not agree with them. Then put it up again for a veto override and make them vote on it again. That would have been a heck of a campaign issue if the Democrats held firm, but Moore took a pass on it. That made absolutely no sense at the time. It seemed to reek of political malpractice. Now, however, one can connect the dots between Speaker Moore and the homosexual lobby, and why it happened is just too crystal clear, and too infuriating. Moore needs to go. He is not serving the Republicans of North Carolina and our interests.

The Spanish American War was a war that Big Media of the day pushed us into. Spain probably had nothing to do with the explosion on the battleship Maine, which was not at all in their interest. It came within a day of being an extremely consequential war for the US, because that is how long the Imperial German Far East Fleet lost their race with Dewey to reach Manila Bay. Imperial Germany wanted the Phillipines and when the war broke out, they ordered their Far East Fleet based in Kaio Chau, the German version of Hong Kong on the Chinese coast, to steam for Manila. The goal was to position the German fleet in front of the Spanish to force US Admiral Dewey to either attack them first or leave. If the former happened, the Kaiser was ready to go to the Reichstag for a declaration of war, and America would have found itself fighting the world's second most powerful navy at the time (the UK's Royal Navy was the most powerful). As it was, the German fleet was a day late and while they steamed around trying to provoke an attack by Dewey, including landing German marines, Dewey was smart enough to ignore them and they eventually steamed away. Even after the naval gambit failed, Germany offered to buy the Phillipines from Spain and take on evicting the Americans themselves. That is why in the peace treaty with Spain, the US paid for the Phillipines while Cuba and Puerto Rico were ceded without any payment.

Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive Republican, a big spender and a big government guy, more like a Cheney than a Trump. His role in the Spanish American War was more hype than reality. He may have exuded a certain personal bravado, but his politics were to the left of most Republicans of his day.
