That North and South divide seems so inconsequential today, doesn't it? But it was real!

Commented on I need an Alfred

In that you only get 20 minutes a week for the steep price of $279/mo, I don't think you would be in any danger of being bored or running out of things to do!!

Thanks, Stan. I'm having loads of fun. I even have a book signing scheduled in October in St. Simons for my new book! Since this one is written by the dog, Island Dog is hosting the event.

Perhaps you'll be able to enjoy it vicariously when I write my recap!

Commented on Heroes among us

We had the pleasure of taking Dominic to the Atlanta WWII Forum today, where I got to introduce him. Folks from the Atlanta History Center approached him about interviewing him and making a recording for their website. So, a recording may be in the works. Thanks for your kind words.

To Ted, perhaps you'll like the book I just submitted to my publisher. It will have illustrations!

Omigawd! This is making my blood boil.

I recently met a woman who told me she owned 3,000 cookbooks and another 2,000 books!!

Alex, the only time I've ever written anything remotely political, I also submitted it ONLY to BCN. It would ruin my PollyAnna persona if I published anything controversial here in Dunwoody.

Alex, you know we all take everything you write as gospel!

Yoru words paint vivid images and make me want to visit the rabbit patch.

You just never know what will be next. In another month, I DO plan to write a piece on my publisher and my experience and list where the book can be found. I'll be shamelessly promoting my book in my columns in the Dunwoody Crier and here! I am fortunate to have seven local shops signed up to offer the book, but need to get cracking on a more comprehensive marketing plan.

Thanks Stan!

I always have a book to read while in a waiting room. Heaven forbid I'd spend any time staring when I could be reading! But yes, my smartphone is my fallback these days when I end up somewhere without my book, like waiting for a friend in a restaurant.

What a lovely tribute.

Just a few days ago, I read an article in which someone else suggested that Hillary and the Donald were in cahoots to throw the race her way. Could it be a case of great minds...?

Great tribute. We moved to Atlanta in 1967, and I recall 285 being built. Too funny that folks used it to race on!

So, let me get this straight: If I indulge in drugs, alcohol, and lots of food deemed bad for me, I'll be helping society? I can cease working out three days a week, lie in bed, and read all day, and that will make me a good citizen? Oh, and I can stop cooking dinner every night and just get fast food? It's tempting!

I do too when I can't find them at the library. I bet the library has most of these though.

The article may have been prophetic, but the whole idea IS pathetic! UGH. Just shoot me now.

I'm thinking if the Roto-Rooter man had taken over the procedure with his tool, you wouldn't be writing this story. Thankfully, I've only had 3 colonoscopies, and yes, that's 3 too many.

Sad but very likely a true vision of the future...or the present. It doesn't take long, but I do read our Atlanta paper every morning, yet the AJC continues to send me emails wondering why I have not logged on to see the online version. UGH.

Commented on A Balancing Act

Hmmm. My trainer occasionally has us use the Bosu, similar to the balance pad, but not often to stand on. More often, we use it for pushups, or we sit balanced on it with legs in the air (for abs), or lunge on and off of it. But hey, we're all still trying...except perhaps for TMc.

Oh no, now you've encouraged him! He's written two other posts, one about daylight saving time and another about his diet, so he may feel they deserve to be seen on BCN. His feline sister has also spoken up.

Even Gwyneth Paltrow named her child Apple. Go figure. Instead of a trend that fades away, this behavior looks as though it will be with us for quite some time. May I just eloquently say, "ICK?"

As your resident grammar geek, I will continue sending "stuff" like this. See, I can be informal every once in a while.

TMc: In most contexts, someone and somebody are interchangeable. The only difference that most native speakers can agree upon is that someone is more formal than somebody (just as anyone is more formal than anybody, and everyone is more formal than everybody). (I googled your question and found this answer.)

Or perhaps this falls into the category of "boys will be boys."

I'm not actually writing about Shakespeare proper English. I am referring to basic English rules, like using I vs. me properly and not using double negatives.

As a non-Catholic, St. Christopher is one of the few I recognize. But I digress; I cannot believe the paper would not refer to this man as Archbishop. What's up with that? Is this political correctness carried yet another step too far?

I see a biz opportunity for this in St. Simons, GA. They already have a trolley with a tour guide, but a "Beercycle" (pronounced like popsicle) could be manned or womaned by a tour guide for twice the fun.

Love the video clips and the memories. You may be interested in the column I wrote for the Dunwoody Crier this year (www.thecrier.net) about their August concert in Norcross and my memories of this wonderful group.
