We need to clean up our elections! So that the American people's vote counts again! Instead of people getting elected by fraud!!!

I love Biden but he just said the stupidest comment, "I wouldn't be president if I was corrupt."

Oh my gosh, look at Trump; he's a devil in disguise.

People need not to bring their personal feelings to the job especially one as important as the White House. That wasn't the business at arms he felt the need to hurt the first black Press Secretary for the White House.

I spoke out against the SAVVAS curriculum at the School Board meeting on February 21, 2023. As mentioned in the article, we still don’t have an approved social studies curriculum in Beaufort County after more than two years! Teachers are creating their own lesson plans, utilizing information they find on the internet and other sources but without an approved curriculum to use as a benchmark. The decision was made to table the adoption of the SAVVAS curriculum for a later date. This most likely happened because the Superintendent got egg on his face for trying to push through a “woke” curriculum with a weak school board and received more public outcry than was anticipated. They probably hoped to push it through at a later date when the public wasn’t watching but eventually decided to give up completely in order to pursue finding a science curriculum.

This whole fiasco is just another example of why DOGE is needed in the public education bureaucracy. Administrative staff (bureaucracy) at the county, state and federal levels has grown by 88% since 2000. In the same period, student and teacher levels have only grown by 8%. That means bureaucracy in education has grown at an excessively higher rate than the folks doing the actual educating in classrooms and students being taught. We have also seen a continuing decline in school and student performance scores during the same time. That tells me that the bureaucracy is broken and needs much necessary reform. The issues with our county curriculum selection process are a perfect case study as the article explains. If Dr. Parker and the BCS staff are incapable of choosing more than one curriculum at a time, what are they actually doing? The bureaucrats at the county level and the superintendent are incompetent at best and, at worst, don’t actually care about the education our children receive. It is way past time for them to do their job. It is also way past time for the weak, incompetent School Board to hold the superintendent accountable!

This makes sense. The United States has plenty of laws in place to prevent discrimination in hiring practices and to protect the rights of workers without a need for DEI. The Equal Pay Act (EPA), Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Executive Order 11246 governing Affirmative Action Programs for federal contractors until it was recently rescinded. These programs exist to protect employee rights and rely on merit and selecting the most qualified candidates for a position as opposed to other factors such as race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. DEI changed that trajectory focusing more on an individual's identifying characteristics as opposed to merit in decision making.

I recall seeing the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Earl Scruggs Revue, and Don Maclean at The Great Southeast Music Hall in the 1970’s, as well as many of the others mentioned in the article. It was such an intimate venue. The only place I ever saw that served beer in buckets and patrons sat on a slanted, carpeted floor. To see those great musicians so close up was a rare treat.

Ah nostalgia. Spent many afternoons at the bar restaurant before going into my job at the Victoria Station restaurant further down Piedmont Rd. To go to the bathroom one had to pass by the performers dressing room lounge area. Door was always open. A friend brought a group of us into meet Country Joe McDonald and his guitarist Barry Melton. Never would have had to guts to do that by myself. We smoked a joint and Country Joe spent the whole time staring at the ceiling. Saw Jerry Garcia there the night of my high school graduation.

Hood, in regard to your questions about CF filings (Campaign Finance, since you're probably not smart enough to figure out what CF stands for), all questions concerning any CF filings have been satisfactorily answered and a $500 fine waived. I have a letter from NCSBE stating such. So you can stop whining over this issue. The initial request for issues dating to 2021. I was not treasurer during this period but I researched and resolved these issues to their satisfaction. Their are NO OUTSTANDING ISSUES AT THIS TIME. DO YOU THINK A FINE WOULD HAVE BEEN WAIVED IF ISSUES WEREN'T SATISFACTORILY RESOLVED. WILL YOU BE ABLE TO HAVE YOU $500 fine waived. You are so full of yourself (didn't want to use a dirty word). You are the most devicive individual I have ever known and your club, no longer a PAC follows you blindly.

Hood, all you do is make accusations. Provide real tangible proof that the accusations are true or take a nap, like you are known to do. Most of Beaufort County is tired of your bullying tactics. I for one agree with the idea of having sworn deputies as SROs. And yes, schools are only open 180 days per year. Given the broad geographic area that Beaufort County covers, I can imagine these SROs could be assigned to a variety of outreach programs for youth when they are not in school. As a teenager, when school was out, I spent the better part of the summer in a tobacco field. What programs or jobs for young teens are available in Beaufort County to help young people have something to focus on during the summer. An idle mind is the devil's playground. I wonder if the devil is playing in your mind when you're napping.

To the readers of this rant by Hood, NC General Statute GS 47- 16.1 allows Registers of Deeds (ROD) to electronically record deeds and other documents normally kept in the ROD offices. Unfortunately, after 100's of years of recording and storing paper documents, many ROD offices are out of storage area, Beaufort County being one of those. There are currently 76 counties in NC (out of 100) that have transitioned to electronic recording. I'm sure Hood has been in the storage areas within the Beaufort County Courthouse and is aware of or chooses to ignore the lack of space. Carolyn Garris has resigned her position as Chairman of the Beaufort County Republican Party. Paul Varcoe has assumed her duties as he was the 1st vice-chairman. I'm sure you know Mr. Varcoe, he was the gentleman you charged with assault. Sadly, for you, in a court of law, you lost your case. I don't know Mr. Melton. No ill will intended, but I'm not sure his background makes him any more qualified than Mrs. Garris.

It's pretty clear that the city council is dysfunctional team. Maybe they should consider some team building exercises. Writing articles such as this, that point fingers and cast blame at the mayor, and other council members certainly don't help bring the team together. Someone needs to grow up, and instead of hurling accusations, start asking questions as to what can we do to come together and do the job we were elected to do.
