Notice the determination in this rider's face. Just moments earlier, this triathlete, like the one in the picture below, was racing into the bike pen to retrieve his sturdy steed, and make his way either 13 miles or 26.5 miles down Beaufort County's roads: Above and then below. photos by Stan Deatherage.
When these triathletes hit the hard pavement to run 3.1 miles for the sprint competition, or 6.2 miles for the Olympic competition, they had already completed the swimming leg of the competition, and also the biking competition. Notice that none of the triathletes have the wet of the Pamlico River in their hair: Above and then below the text. photos by Stan Deatherage.
As we move to the running phase, at least as reported by my images, I would like to take this opportunity to report a few facts on the event, which was sponsored by the Washington Beaufort County
Chamber of Commerce.
This event held along Washington Park's waterfront, at least as a point of embarkation, was administrated by FS Series, which is an event production and timing company based in Raleigh/Cary, NC. They held their first multi-sport event in April of 2007 and have grown to over 60 events in just 4 short years. In 2011 our team is involved in 21 triathlons, 4 duathlons, 2 marathons, 7 Open Water Swims and over 40 running races (
as per their website).
A sure-fire way to get me, in most cases, to publish your picture is to make a goofy face: Above. The image below well exhibits the total ambience of the event and where it was held: Below. photos by Stan Deatherage.
Naturally, we reciprocate by giving fine websites, like theirs, a comparable backlink.
Also Marc sent me the names of some of the competitors to list on our article. We want this, and since BCN gets so much traffic, and we do leave these articles up for perpetuity, these spirited efforts of others will be remembered, and are a fine example of the human will to succeed.
