A word about last night's Candidate Meeting | Eastern North Carolina Now

I was in attendance, as were a room full of Beaufort County citizens. I suppose there were at least 200 present along with the media.

Publisher's note: Gene sent this to me about 24 hours ago, so it is not as current as BCN's posts normally are. I've been out of town, trying to make some money, and BCN has suffered a bit.

I was in attendance, as were a room full of Beaufort County citizens. I suppose there were at least 200 present along with the media.

This is one of the best and most fair political events I have ever witnessed in my life. I thank the people who formatted it and the Candidates who took time to participate. I found it to be most informative and fair to all participating. We had an opportunity to submit questions upon registration and they were wisely used.

Two things that impressed me most:

    1. The spirit of the Candidates to speak in respect and love to issues and share something about themselves.

    2. The friendly banter with the crowd.

I met a number of people who now read my posts on BCN. Even those who disagree with me smiled and shook hands. Our main comment to one another is that "we can all agree to disagree" on tough issues of late. I felt appreciated and enjoyed putting some faces with names at last.

If only this kind of spirit could prevail with our County Commissioners meetings! Instead of fixed faces voting the same every time and hate-filled exchanges of ideas, these meeting should reflect the congenial attitude of the crowd last night at Beaufort Community College.

I think all the Commissioners were there. I hope they saw the real attitude of concerned citizens. It was nice and friendly with a desire to get acquainted and decide who represents me best in the candidates.

Now, may the best person who pleases a majority of voters take up their duties to serve us with a smile on face!

Let's all get out and vote. It is more important than we realize to use the privilege of American voting rights. I personally wish I could vote for every one of the Candidates who spoke last night. Hey---maybe we should just let them form a new Board of Commissioners in place to the current one!
