Beaufort County Manager Randell Woodruff has resigned his position with the county, and will leave to take a similar position, and about a 22,000.00 raise, in Pender County. He will live in Hampstead.

Manager Woodruff conferred to me, "Pender County is a lot like Beaufort County; it is a county on the move. Everyone here in Beaufort County has been real nice to me, and you, commissioners, have been very helpful in moving us forward, and making my job easier."

Randell Woodruff came to Beaufort County from Camden County after serving as manager there. There were many difficult issues during his tenure here in Beaufort County, but from a historical perspective, there are always tough, contentious issues here in Beaufort County due to a divided board of county commissioners. Manager Woodruff's tenure here was no different than any other manager over the last 20 years that I have been intimately familiar with, who managed Beaufort County's government.

I wish Randell much success, and I look forward to visiting the new Pender County manager once he becomes acclimated in his new job.

Over the last 30 years, Beaufort County has had three managers: One was fired by Commissioner Carol Cochran, during my two year hiatus, the other two swear that everything was was just fine, and they moved on to collect larger salaries.

How many County Managers have we been through in the last 20 years?

What was their average tenure?

Did they leave happy or frustrated?
