Small Business Center Offers Live Video Streaming Of Workshops | Eastern North Carolina Now

Live streaming now available for business workshops

A recent Small Business Workshop led by social media expert Martin Brossman was offered over the Internet by the Small Business Center at Beaufort County Community College through the use of a laptop computer and a software service. The SBC plans to offer more workshops this way in the coming weeks.
Prospective and current business owners will no longer have to travel in order to attend most workshops sponsored by the Small Business Center at Beaufort County Community College.

This week, the center announced that most of the workshops it offers will be available via live video streaming directly to a business owner's or prospective business owner's computer or most handheld devices.

The move to provide video streaming of many of its workshops is just the latest effort by the Small Business Center to offer services to its clients who may not be able to travel to the BCCC campus, according to center Director Lentz Stowe.

"We want to reach clients in our service area as much as possible," Stowe said. "Live video streaming is another way we are able to help our local business owners and prospective business owners."

Last year, BCCC began offering online courses to entrepreneurs through a partnership with Hewlett Packard and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship.

These courses cover topics such as online selling, finance basics, forecasting sales, setting prices, social media marketing, hiring staff, customer relations and managing inventory, among others, that are designed to give entrepreneurs "a good introduction to the topics," said Lentz Stowe, director of BCCC's Business and Industry Services.

Stowe said the video streaming will give entrepreneurs another tool in their arsenal by giving them the chance to conveniently attend workshops presented by renowned subject matter experts via the Internet.

To access the courses, individuals should visit the Small Business Center page on the BCCC website at http://www.beaufortccc.edu/coned/contin.htm and click on the link for registering for Small Business Center workshops. Workshops available for live video streaming will be listed.

The BCCC Small Business Center is one of 58 across North Carolina that in 2012-2013 provided entrepreneurship seminars and/or counseling to more than 50,000 individuals, resulting in 528 business start-ups and 2,967 jobs created or retained.

For more information about BCCC's Business and Industry Services, including seminars for current and prospective business owners, online courses or one-on-one counseling, contact Stowe at 252-940-6306 or by email at lentzs@beaufortccc.edu Information about upcoming workshops is available on the BCCC website at http://www.beaufortccc.edu/coned/contin/htm.
