Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C. — Governor Pat McCrory signed House Bill 140 into law today, which designates Saturday, April 18 as Lineman Appreciation Day in 2015. Next year and beyond, the day will be commemorated throughout the state on the second Monday of April.

"Linemen risk their lives to take care of our valuable electrical utilities, and this sacrifice should not go unnoticed," Governor McCrory said. "It's an honor to establish this day to recognize the everyday work that they do to keep North Carolina up and running, no matter the day or time."

The governor signed the legislation at the annual meeting of the state's electric cooperatives, which primarily serve North Carolina's rural areas. He was joined by linemen Donald Neems, a crew leader with 24 years of experience from Piedmont EMC based in Hillsborough, Corey Hayes, a serviceman from Roanoke Electric in Aulander, and Derek Avery, a first class lineman with South River EMC based in Dunn as well as bill sponsors Representatives Kelly Hastings and John Bradford and Senator Warren Daniel, who carried the bill through the Senate. Representatives Gary Pendleton and Jean Farmer-Butterfield also sponsored the bill.
