Raleigh, N.C. — Governor Pat McCrory has signed the following bills into law.

  • H.B. 334 — A bill making changes to various charter school statutes and other education statutes pertaining to tuition and fees. A charter school is not allowed to charge tuition or fees except for fees that are charged by the local school administrative unit in which the charter school is located, and, upon approval by the board of directors of the charter school, fees for extracurricular activities. Those fees shall not exceed the fees for the same extracurricular activities charged by a local school administrative unit in which forty percent or more of the students enrolled in the charter school reside.
  • H.B. 44 — A bill amending various laws related to overgrown vegetation notices. Municipalities may now notify chronic violators via regular mail along with certified or registered mail. If service by regular mail is used, a copy of the notice shall be posted in a conspicuous place on the premises affected.
  • H.B. 173 — A bill amending various criminal laws for the purpose of improving trial court efficiency. Improvements include extending the time to pay court costs from 20 to 40 days to avoid additional costs, requiring that a bond be doubled for anyone charged with a new crime on pre-trial release, and changing the term "mental retardation" to "intellectual disability" to model two U.S. Supreme Court cases.
