Poll Lunch Highlights Voters' View Of Prez, Gov. Candidates | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's note: This post, by the CJ Staff, was originally published in the Elections & Voting section of Civitas's online edition.

This week's Civitas Poll Lunch shed light on what North Carolina voters think about the likely candidates for governor, and some of the leading presidential hopefuls.

For the White House race, the poll matched Hillary Clinton against selected Republicans. The question and the results were:

If the election for president were being held today, and you had to make a choice, for whom would you vote if the candidates were (RANDOMIZE): (ROTATE NAMES FOR EACH)

Republican Democrat Undecided Refused
Donald Trump, the Republican and Hillary Clinton, the Democrat?
43% 47% 7% 4%
Ben Carson, the Republican and Hillary Clinton, the Democrat?
50% 40% 8% 2%
Jeb Bush, the Republican and Hillary Clinton, the Democrat?
45% 41% 10% 4%
Marco Rubio, the Republican and Hillary Clinton, the Democrat?
47% 42% 9% 3%
Ted Cruz, the Republican and Hillary Clinton, the Democrat?
42% 44% 11% 3%
Carly Fiorina, the Republican and Hillary Clinton, the Democrat?
45% 42% 11% 2%

Asked who they'd vote for if the gubernatorial vote were today, 41 percent picked McCrory, 37 percent choose Cooper, and 20 percent were undecided, with some of those leaning to one of the candidates.

In contrast to some other recent polls, McCrory had positive ratings in the Civitas poll. Asked if they approved of the job the governor was doing, 53 percent approved and 39 percent disapproved. Asked if they had a favorable or unfavorable view of McCrory, 54 percent had a favorable view, and 37 percent had an unfavorable view.
