The obsession with Views as explained to Ted McDonald | Eastern NC Now

Ted McDonald and I were discussing out posts in Beaufort County Now and I expressed my opinion that the obsession with views should only be of concern to the publisher since it will increase exposure.

Ted McDonald and I were discussing our posts in Beaufort County Now and I expressed my opinion that the obsession with views should only be of concern to the publisher since it will increase exposure and return some measure of remuneration for his efforts.

But for me, to post on Beaufort County Now is nothing more than a chance to clarify my thoughts and maybe get a few things off my chest. For those of you who do not post on BCN or are not registered, there is a feature that allows you to look at the number of views your posts get. That is very informative for those who are trying to change the world or maybe just trying to attract attention.

For the record, I did not tell Ted he was obsessed with views, I may have mention another name but not my old classmate Ted.

My take on the subject is as follows:

Whenever you ship something of extreme value, it is necessary to pack it very well and try to protect it from damage. In the old days, they used Straw, then newspapers. In my former life, a package from the world was most welcome as it usually came packed in Popcorn; and I mean real Popcorn. Today they have that Styrofoam stuff that looks like peanuts but is often called popcorn.

Whatever was in the package was welcome, but the editable packing was a treat for the whole platoon to share. Occasionally the package would contain a bag of the raw popcorn which we could pop using our C4 plastic explosives (I never broke open a claymore mine for the C4 but I have heard rumors of such and occasionally saw the local C4 pusher with extra balls of the stuff. The price was a few cigarettes.)

I view all my of post on BCN as the popcorn that the real important and valuable stuff is packed with. My bloviating comments are merely packing to help protect the other valuable gems that surround the BT posts. I do occasionally visit the "Views" section to see if any of my highly evolved ideas have taken off but most of the time, I am satisfied that just a few of the Squad have been able to share. For the record, a squad usually consist of about 10-14 soldiers which is about average for my views on BCN. That is enough to encourage me to continue my quest to illuminate some of the finer points of life on BCN.

So the next time you see one of my Icons on the top left of a post, it might be worth your time to look at the post. Hell, I may have embedded a link to a very important post.
