PAWC To Host Fish Fry | Eastern NC Now

 WASHINGTON, NC     Pamlico Albemarle Wildlife Conservationists (PAWC) will host a fish fry on May 13, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Herring Club on Tranter's Creek. The evening will include live music from Bob Daw and the Flatland Zingers along the tranquil banks of Tranter's Creek. The event is also an opportunity for local wildlife enthusiasts to mingle with board members of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, of which PAWC is a chapter.

 With numerous successes during its first year, PAWC hopes to celebrate and bring members together to socialize and help raise funds for a good cause. PAWC succeeded in constructing an accessible hunting blind on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, put on a series of organic gardening classes at Beaufort County Community College to help people grow pollinator-friendly habitats and helped stop a proposal for alligator hunting, among other successes.

 "We know that this area is filled with wildlife enthusiasts and advocates, so we want a chance for them to celebrate our bountiful wildlife, eat some great food, kick back and then build the community we need to keep those who would take this bounty from us at bay," said Attila Nemecz, president of PAWC.

 There are many important wildlife-related issues coming to a head this year, including a decision at the national level about the fate of the Red Wolf Recovery Program, an on-going fight to stop Martin Marietta Materials from dumping into Blounts Creek, a lawsuit to get Rose Acre Farms to stop polluting Pocosin Lakes NWR and a potentially wildlife-threatening change in management of Lake Mattamuskeet.
