Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory's appointment for Director of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Robert Schurmeier, was sworn-in today during a ceremony at the Executive Mansion.

"The State Bureau of Investigation has been an important agency for protecting our citizens by assisting local law enforcement with criminal investigations. This agency is critical to protect the rule of law, ethics, and safety of the people of North Carolina," Governor McCrory said. "When it was time for me to nominate a new director, I knew Bob was the right person to lead the SBI with nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience."

Schurmeier was nominated as SBI director by the governor in April and was confirmed by the General Assembly in May. As Director, Schurmeier will oversee more than 300 SBI and Alcohol Law Enforcement special agents across the state.

"The SBI is among the elite of law enforcement agencies in this country," Schurmeier said. "It's an incredible honor to have this opportunity to lead this agency for the State of North Carolina."

Schurmeier spent almost 30 years with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and retired in 2004 as deputy chief over Investigations. After retiring from the CMPD, Schurmeier moved to the private sector supporting businesses and government agencies including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
