Press Release:

RALEIGH, N.C.     State employees from N.C. Commerce, N.C. Health and Human Services, and N.C. Revenue will team up to build a Habitat for Humanity home at the North Carolina State Fair in just ten days from start to finish. After the whirlwind construction phase, the home will be moved to a neighborhood in east Raleigh.

The state government agencies are partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County to build The North Carolina House. The home will showcase North Carolina materials and craftsmanship, along with the 'can-do' spirit of the state employees who are volunteering.

"State employees tackle many important issues in their day to day work" said N.C. Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III. "Now, as volunteers, they will be applying their talents to another worthy cause - building a home for a deserving family."

Fairgoers are invited to watch the home come together before their very eyes while participating in a series of fun contests and games at the construction site, the James B. Hunt Horse Complex parking lot at the fairgrounds.

"The North Carolina State Fair always shines the spotlight on the best our state has to offer," said N.C. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. "We invite everyone to stop by the North Carolina House starting October 13 to support the work of Habitat of Humanity of Wake County."

The new homeowners of the North Carolina House will be Anayo Offia and Chinyere Okafor, originally from Nigeria. The couple will visit the home and participate in its construction throughout the event.

"Home ownership supports a healthy environment for families," said N.C. Health and Human Services Secretary Rick Brajer. "I'm proud of our involvement with the North Carolina House and salute Habitat for Humanity's work both here in Wake County and in other locations across the state."

"We are grateful to the State Fair and Lowe's for leading the way in building the North Carolina House," said Kevin Campbell, President and CEO of Habitat Wake. "We are blessed by donors, volunteers, businesses and congregations in our community who build with families who otherwise could not afford to buy their own homes. The North Carolina House is a celebration of local support and will be a safe, affordable home and dream come true for this family."

The clock for the construction of the North Carolina House starts Thursday, Oct.13 at 7 a.m. Visitors to the North Carolina Fair can check out the construction site anytime during fair hours. The North Carolina House construction site is located on the fairgrounds at the James B. Hunt Horse Complex, 4601 Trinity Road, Raleigh, NC 27607. This site is situated at the corner of Trinity Road and Youth Center Drive.
