On July 17, 2012, North Carolina will have run-off elections (officially the 2nd Primary) for a number of State offices in which neither candidate received in excess of 40% of the vote. Voter turnout for run-off elections is typically low, but for Carteret County and all of eastern North Carolina there is an extremely important race that deserves everyone's attention. This is the Republican race for Insurance Commissioner. The candidates in this race are Mike Causey and Richard Morgan. For the residents of eastern North Carolina, there should be little doubt that the candidate of choice is Mike Causey. The question is not so much "why Mike Causey?" as it is "Why not Richard Morgan?" From the blog "Truth or Dare" Republican Insurance Commissioner candidate Richard Morgan thinks the coastal communities have been sponging off the rest of the state.

Morgan says that the nice folks in Raleigh and Charlotte have been subsidizing our insurance premiums. According to his Facebook page, Richard Morgan believes,

“It’s not right for the state to require homeowners in Raleigh, Charlotte and across North Carolina to pay higher insurance premiums so people who own at risk beach front property pay less” - http://truthordarenc.com/gop-insurance-commissioner-candidate-says-coastal-areas-not-paying-fair-share/

So, if you want your insurance rates in coastal Carolina to skyrocket (if they already weren't high enough) stay home and don't vote. But if you want someone who supports more equitable distribution of true risks and insurance rates, go to the polls on July 17th and vote for Mike Causey. If you're not a homeowner, and you think this doesn't matter, just remember that your rent helps to pay the insurance on your rental unit. Even renter's in the eastern North Carolina should be concerned about what Richard Morgan plans for eastern NC homeowners insurance rates.

There are also a lot more reasons not to vote for Morgan. Check out the following link for more information about Richard Morgan and why, as a Republican, you would not vote for him for dog catcher!
