    Governor Cooper and NC DHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen announced that North Carolina will remain in Safer at Home Phase 2 for three more weeks and will implement mandatory face coverings in public. When worn consistently, face coverings can decrease the spread of COVID-19, especially among people who have yet to show symptoms.

    "North Carolina is relying on the data and the science to lift restrictions responsibly, and right now our increasing numbers show we need to hit the pause button while we work to stabilize our trends. Face coverings are a simple way to control this virus while we protect ourselves, our families, and other people around us," said Governor Cooper. "Required face coverings help our economy, by making it safer to shop, do business, and keep our small businesses running."

    North Carolina businesses must have employees and customers wear face coverings, including retail businesses, restaurants, personal care, and grooming; employees of child care centers and camps; state government agencies under the Governor's Cabinet; workers and riders of transportation; workers in construction/trades, manufacturing, agriculture, meat processing and healthcare and long-term care settings.

    All North Carolinians are encouraged to continue social distancing and practicing the three Ws: wear a face covering over your mouth and nose, wait 6 feet apart, and wash your hands. Read NCDHHS guidance on face coverings.

    Families who need food assistance for their children can text FOODNC to 877-877 to find free meal sites in their communities.

    Make sure to prioritize your overall wellness and don't hesitate to seek additional help. Optum has a toll-free 24-hour Emotional Support Help Line at 866-342-6892 for people who may be experiencing anxiety or stress due to Coronavirus.

    On Wednesday, Governor Cooper and Dr. Mandy Cohen teamed up to answer questions from North Carolina’s young people about the COVID-19 pandemic. Watch the Kid’s Q&A.

    Today Governor Coopered signed SB-562, The Second Chance Act.

    The Second Chance Act automatically expunges the records of innocent people and allows non-violent offenders to petition for expungement after a period of good behavior. This law is a step in the right direction, with more work still to be done to build an equal and just system.

    "We can give people who make amends for past mistakes the opportunity to clear their records. This bill offers that opportunity and a path to good jobs and a brighter future," said Governor Cooper.

    During this time it is imperative that everyone is informed about what is going on in our state. Governor Cooper's administration has been working to get information and resources translated for the Spanish speaking population in our state.
