    RALEIGH, NC     North Carolina Coastal Pines congratulates Elaine Hudnell of Belhaven, NC for receiving the Distinguished Service Award. Council level adult awards and recognitions honor volunteers for their outstanding service and contributions to the council, girls, and the entire Girl Scout Movement.

    The Distinguished Service Award recognizes volunteers who have contributed remarkable service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

    The recipients of this award have performed beyond expectations for their position and have supported Girl Scouts' mission delivery goals in one or more of the following functional areas: membership, development and community cultivation, volunteer relations and support, program, leadership, and council support service.

    "Our council recognizes outstanding individuals like Elaine each year to show our gratitude for their commitment to our Movement and making a difference for girls," said Shawna Peaks, Vice President of Learning and Development at Girl Scouts — North Carolina Coastal Pines. "It is because of the leadership and dedication of volunteers like her that we are able to continue to build girls of courage, confidence, and character."

On April 17, 2026 Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff Office received information that 37-year-old Clinton Alexander Daniel of Chocowinity NC had strangled his 4-year-old son.
On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.

Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.

On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.

Beaufort County Community College (Beaufort CCC)’s Small Business Center director, Jack Dugan, received the Center of Excellence Innovation Award for Programs and Seminars during last week’s North Carolina Community College Small Business Center Network meeting.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple vehicle break-ins between December 6 th and December 9 th in the areas of Turkey Trot Rd., South Asbury Church Rd. and Magnolia School Rd. in Washington.
