Angels N Camo Stay'n Active | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Angels N Camo is a Beaufort County based non-profit organization. The organization was founded by Lisa Boyd Adams of Washington. The mission of Angels N Camo is to raise funds to grant hunting and fishing adventure wishes of children that have been diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Angels N Camo was founded to honor the memory of Mr. Henry Ball, a life long family friend who was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, who passed away in January 2012 from complications from cancer. Henry was best friends with Lisa's father, Dennis R. Boyd. Dennis and Henry shared a passion for hunting. As a young child, Lisa went hunting with her father and Henry often.

Henry opened and operated his own gun shop. He was an excellent gunsmith and spent countless hours in his shop making and molding beautiful firearms. He has six patents in current production with Savage Arms Inc, MA, for a smokeless black powder rifle. Henry will be remembered for his generous nature, steadfast determination, love of animals, as well as his stubbornness. He loved telling stories with family and friends and capturing your attention with his witty and profound "Henryisms".

After Henry passed away in January, Lisa wanted to do something to carry on his memory and love of the outdoors and hunting. She decided to form an organization that would take children with illnesses hunting or fishing, whatever their wish may be. Lisa wanted to see make a child's dream of catching "the big one" or shooting that "big ol' buck" come true.

Lisa came up with the name Angels N Camo and with the help of the Laura Watts, an art teacher next door to Lisa's classroom, the Angels N Camo logo was created. With lots of foot work, fundraising, and talking to the community, funds became available to start making wishes come true.

With the help of Riley's Army, an organization that helps families in eastern NC with children with cancer, Angels N Camo granted their first fishing adventure wish in July for Kytaveya Blount and her family. Kyataveya fought kidney cancer and is currently in remission. Kyataveya's family was treated to a day of fishing and grilling on Chocowinity Bay. Kyataveya received a bag full of goodies and Angels N Camo apparel. The family was hosted by Lee, Robin, and Anderson Potter. Down on Mainstreet donated a gift certificate to the host family for hosting Kytaveya's family at their home.

At the end of August, Angels N Camo granted Emma Shifflett her fishing adventure wish and headed out to catch her "big one." David Jones and Kelly Ray Alligood of Washington hosted Emma, her mom, and her dad on a Red Drum fishing trip on the Neuse River. The first fishing trip had to be cut short due to a thunderstorm coming up. A few weeks later, Emma and her mom, Brandy, set out with David, Kelly Ray, and Lisa again in search of catching her fish. This time was successful! Emma caught the first Red Drum of the night weighing in at about 50 pounds. Emma was delighted and was surprised that the fish was almost as big as she was! Brandy, Emma's mom, also caught her very first fish ever on the trip. Four Red Drum total were caught on Emma's trip. Emma received a bag full of goodies and Angels N Camo apparel. Down on Mainstreet donated a gift certificate to Emma and her family to use at a later date for a family night out.

The Angels N Camo crew is now planning a hunting trip for a big buck in October for a young man that was diagnosed with leukemia but is now in remission. Fundraisers are ongoing to help support the hunting trip and for other future trips. Future fundraisers include a cash raffle to be held in October and a fundraiser at the Accidental Artist in Greenville in November.
