Is NC on verge of partisan gerrymander from Supreme Court? | Eastern NC Now

Did Roy Cooper give marching orders to Dems to hijack the process?

ENCNow

The brief filed by NC's far left governor Roy Cooper and even farther left Attorney General Josh Stein with the NC Supreme Court on the redistricting lawsuit is appalling.  They recommend that the slim Democrat majority on the court hijack the process and either draw districts themselves or bring in a Democrat "special master" to do so, instead of the usual process of allowing the legislature to make any changes deemed required.  This sort of partisan power play would be incredibly divisive in our state.

By filing this brief they put the four Democrats on the court on notice of what the party hierarchy, controlled by the governor expected them to do.  If they do not follow this tyrannical governor's diktat, they risk having the party pull support for their reelection. Justice Ervin, who is up for election this year, is particularly in the crosshairs.

At least one Democrat member is probably radical enough to take extreme partisan action on her own, even without the push from Cooper and Stein.  Anita Earls has a radical left political history and is the most extremist person ever elected to the court. But to make matters worse, the politically corrupt Earls is bought and paid for by the Democrat group bringing the lawsuit, which contributed $250,000 to buy Earls her seat on the court.  The fact that she refuses to recuse herself despite this massive conflict of interest means she does not have an honest bone in her body.

If the slim Democrat majority decides to follow Cooper and Stein and abuse its power to do an extreme partisan Democrat power play and gerrymander our state, it is to be hoped that the Republicans on the court will call them out on it.

A bi-partisan 3 judge panel of the Superior Court unanimously approved the districts. The only reason the Democrat majority on the Supreme Court would not confirm that decision would be hardball partisan politics and blatant abuse of power.  Sure the voters could slap them down and vote two Democrats off the court in November, and probably would if the court does a gerrymander, but the damage to our electoral system would be done and the stink around the Supreme Court would take years to go away.
