Press Release:

    Good Morning Everyone,

Tropical Storm Colin has weakened substantially over the last 24 hours, changing the rain and wind forecast for our area as follows:

    Rain / Thunderstorms

Most areas of Beaufort County are now forecasted to receive another 1/2 to 1 inch of rain between now and sunrise Tuesday. Rain chances for each day are as follows:

  • Sunday (60% chance of rain.)
  • The greatest chance of rain and thunderstorms will occur between 3p and 7p. Any thunderstorms that do form, would have the potential to produce heavy downpours. (4 to 5 tenths of an inch of rain is currently forecasted during this time period.)
  • A chance of scattered showers will continue from 8p to 10pm, with scattered rain possible as the remnants of Colin continues to push off the NC coast. Eastern communities such as Belhaven, Pamlico Beach and Aurora appear to have a slightly higher chance of receiving passing showers during this time than inland areas. (1 to 2 tenth of an inch of rain is currently forecasted.)

Monday (20% chance of rain during the day)

Monday looks to be pretty dry, with only a trace of measurable rain between 8a and 7p.

    Winds

Winds conditions have also improved. The centerline path of this tropical system is still expected to pass us to the east. Therefore, the eastern portions of our county remain "worst case scenario" in regards to wind values for Beaufort County. The following wind conditions are currently forecasted for Belhaven, Pamlico Beach and Aurora.
