Shaggin,’ Laughter and Luck | Eastern North Carolina Now

For Immediate Realease:

6th annual event benefitting the Shepard Cancer Foundation

(Washington, NC)    The 6th annual Shaggin’ for a Cause event will be held March 15th, 2013 at the Washington Civic Center. Jim Quick & Coastline is the featured entertainment and what a great time of year – St. Patrick’s Day – to come together for a fun event that raises money for a great cause. Doors open at 6:30.

Proceeds from the event benefit The Shepard Cancer Foundation whose mission is to financially support and promote the Marian L. Shepard Cancer Center in its efforts to improve the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.

The first Shaggin’ for a Cause began in 2007 when the nurses of the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center saw patients and their families struggling financially because of their cancer diagnosis. The goal was to assist patients whose treatment was in jeopardy by establishing a patient assistance fund. Through the generous contributions of the community, in recent years the funds raised now also benefit the Center’s complementary therapy programs. These programs are free and help reduce stress and tension, provide an outlet to express personal struggles with cancer, teach coping strategies, educate about a cancer diagnosis and are open to all cancer survivors and caregivers.

Tickets for the event are reasonably priced at $25 per person and can be purchased at the Marion L Shepard Cancer Center and Vidant Wellness Center. There will be a cash bar, heavy hors d’oeurvres as well as a silent and live auction.

For more information call the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center at (252) 975-4308.

It began as a light rain Thursday night, January 20th, with temperatures a balmy 46 degrees, and by morning a thin layer of ice clung to the firm, bright reddish green Nandina leaves prevalent upon my personal grounds here in Mac'swood.

Sunsets are a natural phenomenon, and always a process where one can estimate that the evening will produce a magnificent sunset, but, one can never be altogether sure until it either happens, or the light of the day unceremoniously just turns dark.
