Speaker Tim Moore pays the piper, settles sex scandal lawsuit | Eastern NC Now

plaintiff's attorney announces "case resolved"

ENCNow

Speaker Tim Moore has paid the piper, likely a very large sum, to quickly settle the sex scandal lawsuit brought against him by an aggrieved husband.  Republican activist and elected official Scott Lassiter had sued Moore for alienation of affection and criminal conversation for an adulterous affair Moore was alleged to have conducted with Lassiter's wife.  The sworn complaint contained allegations of group sex, surveillance cameras, and Moore's offer to use his powers as Speaker to compensate the jilted husband.  During the time the affair was going on, Lassiter's wife, a state employee had received a highly unusual 48% increase in pay.

In such settlements, non-disclosure agreements routinely prohibit anyone from revealing how much was paid or other terms of the settlement.  Lassiter's attorney simply announced that the case had been "resolved".  A settlement this quick, was likely pricey.

Speaker Moore has had ambitions to run for Congress in 2024.

If Tim were to resign, I think the the republicans would lose, at least temporarily, their super majority. What does that mean? Tim could have sex with a cow and they wouldn't kick him out.
