NC House race - Who is REALLY the "sellout" - Kidwell or Armstrong? | Eastern NC Now

argument revolves around legislation to protect big out of state chemcial company

ENCNow

A series of postcards has recently hit mailboxes from a dark money PAC dumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into District 79 against incumbent conservative legislator Keith Kidwell.  They urge voters to :Kick Out" Kidwell who they call a "Sell Out".

What they leave very murky is what this is about and who they accuse Kidwell of "selling out".

The whole kerfluffle revolves around language inserted by RINO Jimmy Dixon into the proposed farm bill that would have prevented North Carolina citizens from suing a big out of state chemical company for selling a product containing a known cancer causing chemical.  This was tried in Congress and many states, but supporters of the chemical company only passed such a bill in two states.

This language would have "sold out" North Carolinians who got cancer from this chemical company's product.  Ironically, they could have still sued local famers who used the chemical but not the big out of state chemical company that produced it.

In the NC House, the Republican caucus overwhelmingly rejected protecting this chemical company from injured NC citizens.  Kidwell was directed to take action in committee to strip this provision from the farm bill, and GOP members backed him up to do so.

Dixon recruited Armstrong to challenge Kidwell.  Armstrong has made it clear on very little of where he stands but has said he supports protecting this chemical company.  Thus, it is Armstrong, not Kidwell, who would be "selling out" actual North Carolina citizens.  Who is Kidwell accused of selling out? That out of state chemical company?

The dark money PAC goes on to accuse Kidwell of being in league with the trial lawyers, presumably on the theory that anyone suing the chemical company would need a lawyer to do so.  But the reality is shown in campaign reports which reveal that Kidwell has never received a dime in contributions from the trial lawyers' PAC.  His reports also show that he is hardly a contribution favorite of individual trial lawyers, either.  This claim is totally bogus.

If one is going to bat for local citizens, they would want any local people who get cancer from a chemical company knowingly putting out a product containing cancer causing substances to have recourse against that company to cover their medical bills and other losses.  Kidwell was standing up for local people in helping block this sellout to the chemical company, while Armstrong supports the sellout to that company.

If Dixon and Armstrong, and, yes, liberal RINO Steve Troxler, had their way, an employee or neighbor of a farmer who got cancer from this chemical, they could sue the farmer who applied it but not the chemical company which made it.  That is a total sellout of local people.

But the conflict of interest problem for Armstrong gets even worse.  Armstrong's seed business grows genetically modified seeds for Monsanto, the very same chemical company that would be protected from lawsuits by the legislation that Armstrong supports.

Kidwell did not "sell out" local people.  He stood up for them and their rights.  It is Armstrong whose position would sell local people out, in favor of an out of state company that he himself has deep business ties to.

And the dark money group behind the postcards?  Nobody knows where their money comes from, but given their obsession with this issue, common sense says it is likely they are being funded at least in part by this very same out of state chemical company.

Armstrong is siding with a big out of state chemical company against NC citizens, and a chemical company that he has personal business ties with. This is clearly a conflict of interest, and if he got elected and acted on it would be outright corruption.

All that special interest PAC dark money might lead some to say that Armstrong is the best politician that money can buy.

I was just asked if the previous comments signed by "Terry" was from me. NO it was not. If I comment on here I will always sign my full name "Terry Williams". I'm never ashamed to stand behind my comments. Thank you for letting me clear this up.

Why would any North Carolina politician want to stop our own citizens from getting compensation from an out of state chemical company causing cancer when citizens of other states are still allowed to sue them? Hasn't this company already paid out billions to people whose cancer they caused?

What is obscene is the hundreds of thousands of dollars the special interest dark money PAC's are throwing against conservative Kidwell. Armstrong would be bought and paid for from day one by the special interests.

This issue all comes down to the special interests versus the people. If a company produces a product that causes cancer, they ought to have to compensate the victims. Kidwell and most Republican stood for that principle. A small group of special interest oriented politicians stood with the special interests. Dixon and Traxler are two of those, and Armstrong agrees with them.

It was not just Kidwell. It was most Republicans, who stood with average citizens and against protecting special interests. The chemical company tried the same thing in the US Congress, and in spite of a few special interest types, most Republicans refused to protect the special interests. They tried it in most states, but only suckered two states out of 50. In North Carolina, the Republican House Caucus overwhelmingly said NO to this special interest legislation.

Armstrong has a huge conflict of interest here. The chemical company involved is Monsanto, and its successor. Armstrong has extensive business dealings with Monsanto's seed division, growing genetically modified seeds for them. Armstrong has refused to reveal that conflict of interest to voters.

Roundup may be a danger beyond just employees on farms and their neighbots. Research in Florida has found Roundup in bread on grocery store shelves. It has also been marketed for home use..

Folks ive known Keith for 10 years now and did yall ever stop to think maybe he got this one wrong? Trump just ordered phosphorus and glyphosate support both on the ground and legally. This is the same battle in our farm act last session, where lawmakers argued regulatory flexibility was necessary to protect farmers and food production, while critics warned about environmental and public health tradeoffs. In both cases, the core clash isn’t simply about chemicals... it’s about whether economic resilience and national security should outweigh precautionary regulation when vital agricultural inputs are at stake. www.whitehouse.gov

It's past-time to dump dirty dogs like Dixon, Troxler, and Armstrong. After being at the live debate in Washington earlier this month, it was obvious that Armstrong is working for the power of darkness. Any discerning Christian could easily see that truth! Vote Kidwell, people. Kidwell's love for people far exceeds the other candidate.
