Five of the nine announced candidates for Sheriff of Beaufort County addressed the Beaufort Patriot TEA Party on January 16, 2014. They were Todd Alligood, Gary Blount, Ernie Coleman, Donald Dixon and Harry Meredith.

For years I shied away from this. I thought everyone knew it. I assumed bringing it up would only show how shallow I am. After all, we are all Americans and knowing it should be like a genetic appendage.

I want to take this opportunity to address the issue of building a new jail in Beaufort County. Building a law enforcement complex that includes the jail has been a topic for more than fifteen years, and will probably be for another fifteen years.
