Poor forestry practices are the main cause of bad wildfires around the world. Many of the fires result from arson. As usual, climate alarmists try to create a narrative from anything that happens supposedly being related to their bugaboo CO2. They are a broken record that is a lot like the medieval church. In those days, anything bad that happened was a punishment from God. In the wacky Geia-worshipping religion of climate alarmism, anything bad that happend is a punishment from Manmade Global Warming.

Washingtonian, one constantly wonders about the hidden agendas in Washington city government. One is Sadler's crusade to get the mayor's job back, with Tyre and Horton his go-fers. Another is the longtime goal of the Sadler group for a DEI hire as city manager. To them, the worst thing about Rorie was probably the fact that he is a white straight male., so he simply had to go to make way for "social justice" That he kept the wasterful spending for those absurd DEI outreach staffewrs to blacks and Hispanics was not enough to save him.

As far as safety in the city, spending big bucks out of the police budget to hire those two DEI outreach staffers, which was done under Sadler wasted money that should have been spend on law enforcement. Why should our law enforcement budget become a slush fund for "social justice" nonsense?

It was considerably warmer during the Medieval Warm Period which ended 5 or 600 years ago, and very much warmer during the Holocene Maximum which lasted three thousand years and included the golden era of ancient Greece. Humans and the planet did just fine during both the Medieval Warm Period and the Holocene Maximum. In fact, they prospered.

But you are right in one sense. The totalitarian globalists will keep beating this dead horse, even though they are proven liars. See the Climategate emails, for example.

This Big Gambling special interest is a good example of just how dishonest these special interest PACs are in our elections. They hung two names on their PAC that made it look like they were not associated with gambling, to fool voters. Much of the money was put through a PAC they crated and named "American Conservative Fund" even though the candidates they were opposing were the conservatives and the ones they were pushing were establishment moderates. If they were honest, they would have called themselves the "American Gamblish Fund" or at least the "Anti-Conservative Fund."

Then they pulled a sneaky trick of running a heavy schedule of last minute ads, knowing their opponents resources were already committed and they were not often in a position to respond. They often told outright lies about their opponents, like blasting Kidwell, who had the best record in the legislature of fighting for tax cuts, as having "raised taxes." Special interests tell lies in politics to promote their own agendas.

North Carolina lost a number of taxpayer champions in our legislature because a sneaky dishonest gambling special interest told lies about them and plastered those lies in TV ads which too many voters fell for.

American taxpayer money should not be spent on subsidizing illegal aliens in education or in anything. They are foreign students and should pay full tuition at out-of-state rates.

Even worse is that the four big spender liberals on our county commission - Randy Walker, Frankie Waters, Jerry Langley, and Ed Booth - are pouring county taxpayer money into Bernie Sanders scheme of free college tuition, so even more tax money might be going to illegal aliens, if our ultra liberal administration at BCCC is letting them into that program, which they probably are.

Conservatives need to get to the bottom of whether our tax money is being used to subsidise illegal aliens, and if so what we need to do to stop it.

Bob, you do understand, do you not, that CO2 is NOT pollution. It is a necessary nutrient for plants, and without it, all plant life on earth would die, followed shortly by all animal life. Furthermore, without the Greenhouse Effect, the Earth would be far too cold to sustain life. That is basic science.

Yes. temps do go up in summer. At least you comprehend that. They go up more if we are in an El Nino cycle or a Super El Nino cycle, as we are now.

Conservatives do want protection against pollution, including that generated by wind turbines and solar panels. What we do not believe in is the CO2 global warming conspiracy theory that even the UN's IPCC now seems to be backing off from.

Even Bill Gates finally got some common sense and backed off the cliamte doom scare. You can, too, Bob.

There he goes again! Our own resident Chicken Little is squawking that "the sky is falling". Like the fanatics of his ilk, he takes aspects of the El Nino / La Nina cycle as "manmade climate change." The Chicken Littles of this movement totally ignore that every one of the dire predictions of the mad scientists of the climate cult that have passed the date by which they were supposed to happen, and there have been dozens of those, have NOT happened or even come close. The climate scolds are batting ZERO. With that track record, only a fool would believe anything else they spew.

I have heard that Beaufort County Community College has been giving in-state tuition, and perhaps even free tuition to illegal alien students. Now that there is a federal appeals court ruling that this is illegal under federal law, are they stopping or are they defying the court? Will the county commission do anything about it?

JV, Why is it that some want to give Obama and the Democrats a pass for mangling our health care system with Obamacare, centralized and controlled by an unaccountable bureaucracy? If some younger folks don't grasp what happened, it is probable that is because Obamacare is all they have known and they do not remember when medical care was cheaper before Obamacare was imposed on us by the federal government.

Obamacare is an example of classic fascist economic doctrine, called the corporate state. While businesses were left in private ownership, they were subject to rigid government control.

One of the problems with trying to get out from under Obamacare is that all of its regulations and compliance with them has been a huge factor in the consolidation of medical services. Instead of independent physicians offices and partnerships, hospitals have bought up most medical practices and they are now conglomerates. Insurance companies no longer give us the options in coverage that we once had. It will be hard to put the genie back in the bottle.

Australia's version of Obamacare, which they call Medicare, created the same consolidation of the medical field into conglomerates. This was imposed by a Labour government, and when the Liberal / National coalition came back inot power, they campaigned on ending the program, but found that the consolidation of healthcare made it virtually impossible.

Romneycare stunk as much as Obamacare, which shows that RINOs and Democrats are often on the same philosophical wavelength. I also blame RINO Mitch McConnell for blocking efforts early on to try to undo Obamacare. Mitch McConnell might as well be a closet Democrat.

The medical insurance problem is a creature of Obamacare, which is the fault of the Democrats, but health care costs, and consequently health insurance rates have gone up because of the unpaid medical care given to illegal aliens. That is again a Democrat-caused problem. Gas prices are already coming down.

Van Zant, I agree that actions speak louder than words, and Stan has proven himself as a taxpayer champion for years. A proven record is one of the most important things in politics, and Stan has it.

The Democrat in the race is a proven spendthrift and taxer, the worst of the lot. John Edwards talks in a way that he seems to be on the right path, but if you listen to him closely, he always puts in a qualifier that avoids a real commitment to the position he is trying to imply. Politicians like that are not ones that can be trusted. Ashley Woolard says all the right things on taxes, but he has not been in a position to prove his commitment. He does make solid commitments, unlike Edwards, but has not yet been in a position to prove them.

Everything considered. with one vote in our crazy system, that will go to the proven fighter for the taxpayer, Stan Deatherage. If I had a second vote, it would go to Woolard. The absolute last choice would be the tax and spend Democrat.

He was instructed by the City Council by majority vote to produce a budget budget that substantially cut taxes, but instead produced a tax and spend budget. What a disgrace. Our city council is a three ring circus; you have Tyre always trying to channel Idi Amin, and Perrault constantly channeling Benedict Arnold. Tyre is part of that Sadler machine that sent the thugs to hang around outside and then inside Nick Fritz' restaurant to harass his customers and staff and then to go to his house to intimidate his children in a rotten scheme to force Fritz off the council. Perrault is the guy who ran on the Tax Cut Team, but then started palling around with tax-and-spend kingpin Tyre, and has now voted for a big TAX INCREASE. Perrault seems to be making himself into Tyre in whiteface.

Washingtonian, there is a term for politicians like Tyre, and that is Powerbully.

John, that is not the worst thing. They limited their search to career bureaucrats and shut out those with private sector management experience. Private sector managers strive for efficient cost-effective operations while career bureaucrats tend to be empire builders who care nothing about efficiency. They sought absolutely the wrong qualifications in a county manager, and , well, they found them.
