Poor forestry practices are the main cause of bad wildfires around the world. Many of the fires result from arson. As usual, climate alarmists try to create a narrative from anything that happens supposedly being related to their bugaboo CO2. They are a broken record that is a lot like the medieval church. In those days, anything bad that happened was a punishment from God. In the wacky Geia-worshipping religion of climate alarmism, anything bad that happend is a punishment from Manmade Global Warming.

Commented on Queen Garris Runs Amuck AgainWashingtonian, one constantly wonders about the hidden agendas in Washington city government. One is Sadler's crusade to get the mayor's job back, with Tyre and Horton his go-fers. Another is the longtime goal of the Sadler group for a DEI hire as city manager. To them, the worst thing about Rorie was probably the fact that he is a white straight male., so he simply had to go to make way for "social justice" That he kept the wasterful spending for those absurd DEI outreach staffewrs to blacks and Hispanics was not enough to save him.
As far as safety in the city, spending big bucks out of the police budget to hire those two DEI outreach staffers, which was done under Sadler wasted money that should have been spend on law enforcement. Why should our law enforcement budget become a slush fund for "social justice" nonsense?

Tyree and Horton are spendthrifts who have put a huge burden on taxpayers, but the other two need to get their asses in gear and try to do something. Skip the other stuff. Lets get our overspending cut and our taxes more reasonable.

Commented on India follows Trump's lead in rejecting the globalist climate crusade and "green energy"Most of us also learned in school that it is the Greenhouse Effect that keeps the Earth warm enough to sustain life. The most important greenhouse gas is water vapor which accounts for over 90% of the Greenhouse Effect. C)2 is a very minor greenhouse gas.
Most of ;us also learned in school that the cycle of life is not a closed system. CO2 is emitting by animals, volcanoes, rotting vegetation, and many other natural souces. Plants take in that C)2 in photosynthesis and give off oxygen as part of the process. Burning various fuels is a fairly minor course of CO2. The biggest source of CO2, however, are the oceans. When the climate cools, they absorb CO2 and when the climate warms, they release CO2. Studies of CO2 in the atmosphere reveal that it is a hundred or so years AFTER a climate cycle starts that CO2 in the atmosphere either increases or decreases which shows that more CO2 is a RESULT of a warming climate, not a cause of it.

Commented on India follows Trump's lead in rejecting the globalist climate crusade and "green energy"Bobbie, climatologists have used tree rings, ice core samples and other things to study the Earth's past climate history. In his famous climate movie, Al Gore stands on a stage before a chart of Earth's climate past showing these cycles or warming and cooling, and does a slippery job of trying to compare them to CO2 levels. Climategate "plumber" Dr. Michael Mann tried to use tree ring data to claim the cycles never occured, but got caught in brazen data manipulation to highly fudge his numbers.
There are also lots of other indicators such as the area where vineyards could be grown, which takes a certain warmth of the climate. In the Medieval Warm Period, vineyards thrived in the north of England and much farther north on the European continent than today. They do not thrive in those places even now, even with the warming we have had in the present cycle. The Earth's climate cycles have always been accepted in real climate science. It is only some of the globalist ideologues of the CO2 climate cult that find this science inconvenient.

Commented on India follows Trump's lead in rejecting the globalist climate crusade and "green energy"Not even close, Little Bobbie. It was considerably warmer during the Medieval Warm Period which ended 5 or 600 years ago, and very much warmer during the Holocene Maximum which lasted three thousand years and included the golden era of ancient Greece. Humans and the planet did just fine during both the Medieval Warm Period and the Holocene Maximum. In fact, they prospered.
But you are right in one sense. The totalitarian globalists will keep beating this dead horse, even though they are proven liars. See the Climategate emails, for example.

Commented on How the NC legislature got bamboozled by gambling interests on "prediction market" billThis Big Gambling special interest is a good example of just how dishonest these special interest PACs are in our elections. They hung two names on their PAC that made it look like they were not associated with gambling, to fool voters. Much of the money was put through a PAC they crated and named "American Conservative Fund" even though the candidates they were opposing were the conservatives and the ones they were pushing were establishment moderates. If they were honest, they would have called themselves the "American Gamblish Fund" or at least the "Anti-Conservative Fund."
Then they pulled a sneaky trick of running a heavy schedule of last minute ads, knowing their opponents resources were already committed and they were not often in a position to respond. They often told outright lies about their opponents, like blasting Kidwell, who had the best record in the legislature of fighting for tax cuts, as having "raised taxes." Special interests tell lies in politics to promote their own agendas. North Carolina lost a number of taxpayer champions in our legislature because a sneaky dishonest gambling special interest told lies about them and plastered those lies in TV ads which too many voters fell for.

The Wuhan lab was doing "gain of function" research on these very bat viruses. Imagine that. And guess who was funding it? A grant from Fauci's agency laundered through an entity called the "EcoHealth Alliance" That was to get around federal government rules against using our tax dollars for dangerous gain of function research. Fauci's fingerprints are all over this disaster and he ought to be in prison.

Commented on Federal court strikes down Illinois law giving in-state tuition to illegal aliens at collegesAmerican taxpayer money should not be spent on subsidizing illegal aliens in education or in anything. They are foreign students and should pay full tuition at out-of-state rates.
Even worse is that the four big spender liberals on our county commission - Randy Walker, Frankie Waters, Jerry Langley, and Ed Booth - are pouring county taxpayer money into Bernie Sanders scheme of free college tuition, so even more tax money might be going to illegal aliens, if our ultra liberal administration at BCCC is letting them into that program, which they probably are. Conservatives need to get to the bottom of whether our tax money is being used to subsidise illegal aliens, and if so what we need to do to stop it.

Commented on Look what the casino lobby bought with its big spending against conservatives in GOP primaryI remember the ads run by that casino group that called itself "American Conservative Fund" while it attacked conservatives around the state in legislative primaries. They ran ads locally on TV claiming Keith Kidwell raised taxes. What nonsense. Kidwell was one of the biggest TAX CUTTERS in the legislature. Those scalawags spent a lot of money lying on TV about Kidwell and unfortunately some people were gullible enough to believe it. So now we are stuck with a legislator who was a longtime Democrat and major Democrat contributor who couldn't be bothered in his campaign to tell us where he stood on taxes or much of anything else, for that matter. Now, in sacking Kidwell, who was the main force in stopping the last casino bill, they have others running scared on gambling issues. They not only screwed our district but the whole state.

Bob, you do understand, do you not, that CO2 is NOT pollution. It is a necessary nutrient for plants, and without it, all plant life on earth would die, followed shortly by all animal life. Furthermore, without the Greenhouse Effect, the Earth would be far too cold to sustain life. That is basic science.
Yes. temps do go up in summer. At least you comprehend that. They go up more if we are in an El Nino cycle or a Super El Nino cycle, as we are now. Conservatives do want protection against pollution, including that generated by wind turbines and solar panels. What we do not believe in is the CO2 global warming conspiracy theory that even the UN's IPCC now seems to be backing off from. Even Bill Gates finally got some common sense and backed off the cliamte doom scare. You can, too, Bob.

Didn't you get the memo, Bob? Even that nutty Greta Thunberg has moved on. First it was globalist money man Bill Gates, long a promoter and funder of the climate charade who publishing a 17 page memo backing off the "climate doomer" bandwagon. Then others started dropping by the wayside. Most recently the UN's International Panel on Climate Change revised their chart of temperature predictions. The three highest lines were the ones they kept pointing to in the past as the most likely scenario for their Chicken Little prophecies. Now they have totally deleted the top two and admitted the next one is just academic and not likely to happen. I guess that after years when every time one of their predictions came to the time it was supposed to happen and none of them ever did, their credibility with people who can think for themselves was in the toilet.

Florida is on the cutting edge of fighting illegal immigration. In another area to deal with illegals mooching "free" health care at emergency rooms, which drives up the cost of health care and health insurance for all of us citizens, they passed a state law to discourage it. Under federal law, they could not just exclude them from service, so they required all emergency room patients to provide immigration status information for the records if they were not citizens. Illegal aliens got nervous doing that so the numbers of them using emergency rooms to mooch "free" health care dropped dramatically. Paying patients and their insurance companies should not have to cover freeloading illegal aliens, and this new Florida law cut that down a lot. From the hospitals perspective, they have to charge somebody so they raise what they charge paying patients.
North Carolina should pass a similar law to hold down the health care costs of our citizens.

Commented on Republican Party Begins Sanitizing ItselfJV, Why is it that some want to give Obama and the Democrats a pass for mangling our health care system with Obamacare, centralized and controlled by an unaccountable bureaucracy? If some younger folks don't grasp what happened, it is probable that is because Obamacare is all they have known and they do not remember when medical care was cheaper before Obamacare was imposed on us by the federal government.
Obamacare is an example of classic fascist economic doctrine, called the corporate state. While businesses were left in private ownership, they were subject to rigid government control. One of the problems with trying to get out from under Obamacare is that all of its regulations and compliance with them has been a huge factor in the consolidation of medical services. Instead of independent physicians offices and partnerships, hospitals have bought up most medical practices and they are now conglomerates. Insurance companies no longer give us the options in coverage that we once had. It will be hard to put the genie back in the bottle. Australia's version of Obamacare, which they call Medicare, created the same consolidation of the medical field into conglomerates. This was imposed by a Labour government, and when the Liberal / National coalition came back inot power, they campaigned on ending the program, but found that the consolidation of healthcare made it virtually impossible. Romneycare stunk as much as Obamacare, which shows that RINOs and Democrats are often on the same philosophical wavelength. I also blame RINO Mitch McConnell for blocking efforts early on to try to undo Obamacare. Mitch McConnell might as well be a closet Democrat.

Commented on Republican Party Begins Sanitizing ItselfBefuddled, medical insurance is now governed by Obamacare regulations, instead of those set by the NC Department of Insurance, as it used to be. Federal bureaucrats set the rules, and we no longer have the elected NC Insurance Commissioner to fight for consumers. Insurance companies never complained about Obamacare once they saw how it would work, because under Obamacare, most things are stacked in their favor and against consumers. Consumers have also been deprived of choice, because for those using the "Obamacare Marketplace" for many there is only one insurance company choice even available. Group health insurance is no longer based on the health history of the specific group but on nationwide standards set by federal bureaucrats.

Commented on Taxes, Budgets, Spending, Are They Linked?Van Zant, I agree that actions speak louder than words, and Stan has proven himself as a taxpayer champion for years. A proven record is one of the most important things in politics, and Stan has it.
The Democrat in the race is a proven spendthrift and taxer, the worst of the lot. John Edwards talks in a way that he seems to be on the right path, but if you listen to him closely, he always puts in a qualifier that avoids a real commitment to the position he is trying to imply. Politicians like that are not ones that can be trusted. Ashley Woolard says all the right things on taxes, but he has not been in a position to prove his commitment. He does make solid commitments, unlike Edwards, but has not yet been in a position to prove them. Everything considered. with one vote in our crazy system, that will go to the proven fighter for the taxpayer, Stan Deatherage. If I had a second vote, it would go to Woolard. The absolute last choice would be the tax and spend Democrat.

It is high time our legislators put the brakes on this "climate" nonsense that is jacking up our power bills. The first blow, the "portfolio standards" was done by a Democrat legislature but Thom Tillis as GOP House Speaker blocked a Republican effort to repeal it, thus leaving that rotten scheme in place. Then the GOP itself knifed ratepayers in the back by allowing "leadership", RINO Senate boss Phil Berger and RINO House Speaker Timmy Moore to ram through Berger's rewrite of HB951, which was NC's Green New Deal. Shame on them! It is a huge victory that socialist Berfer was defeated in his GOP primary this year.

Commented on Council Member Joe Davis to Push for Property Tax Cut of More Than 50% at Monday’s MeetingVan Zant, you are right. The vote to substantially raise taxes was 3 to 1, with Joe Davis the only NO vote. There is lots of fluff in that tax increase budget, as there was in the last one. Perrault actually denied at last night's meeting that he had even run on the Tax Cut Team. I am sure that is news to voters who voted for him.
Perrault's other interesting line was to accuse Joe Davis of only wanting to reduce his own taxes. The reality is that a successful young businessman like Davis can afford his taxes a heck of a lot more than our senior citizens on fixed incomes, but he still cares about those senior citizens. Perrault apparently does not. Perrault owns no property in the city and thus is exempt from the tax burden he is imposing on others, including those senior citizens.

While the far left likes to throw around the term "fascist", none of them seem to understand that fascism had a rigid economic doctrine, and today's left very often follows fascist rather than socialist economic doctrine. The climate alarmist movement is one particular example of that, and I have seen some aptly call it "eco-fascism".
Government putting its thumb on the scales is the opposite of capitalism. Government Diktat is the only thing that makes the Climate Industrial Complex function. It could not stand on its own two feet to compete under a free enterprise system. You might want to learn more about what fascism really is before thinking that it just means having a dictator in charge. If you do, you will learn that the modern left's policies here in America are much closer to classical fascist economic doctrine than to classic socialist economic doctrine. Will, neither you nor I are far left, but it is the far left that likes to throw around the term "fascist" without understanding what it actually means.
