By 9:20 am, I had contacted every TV Channel, where I had received reports that these ads were running: North Carolina - WCTI, WNCT; Virginia - Wavy 10, Channels 9, 7 & 13.

At some point, very soon, I expect to get a plan of action from these media outlets.

Upon even further research, I discovered comments relevant to this landfill bill that seem to run contrary to this specious ad presented above in this post.

The 'Great Big Bowl of Wrong' with partisan ads such as this, even by special interest groups like the National Resources Defense Council, who profess to get all weepy about the Polar Bear, is that they will say about anything to appeal to the low 'information voters' that are so prevalent in today's society.

The truth that I am now discovering may be best derived from this well connected comment that I have recently received:

CLAIM: Sen. Cook voted for a bill to encourage New York, New Jersey
and other states to dump their trash in North Carolina.

FALSE. THE BILL IN NO WAY ENCOURAGES NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY AND OTHER
STATES TO DUMP THEIR TRASH IN NORTH CAROLINA. WHAT ALREADY ALLOWS THIS
IS EXISTING FEDERAL LAW.

CLAIM: Sen. Cook supports efforts to allow trash companies to build
massive mega dumps.

FALSE. THE BILL SEN. COOK VOTED FOR KEEPS ALL EXISTING SIZE AND HEIGHT
RESTRICTIONS FOR LANDFILLS IN PLACE – AND IT EVEN ADDS SAFEGUARDS TO
PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT, LIKE REQUIRING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDIES
OF ANY PROPOSED LANDFILLS OR EXPANSIONS. AND OF COURSE, THE FINAL
DECISION ON WHETHER TO BUILD ANY LANDFILL RESTS WITH LOCAL
GOVERNMENTS, NOT THE STATE.

Illegal immigration is one of the key issues that separate grassroots Republicans from establishment Republicans.

Soon the day will come when the proper establishment Republicans' vernacular for this systemic problem will be 'undocumented aliens' rather than that of the illegal avariety.

God bless you John.

If we had more 'high information' folks like you in the electorate, we would have a much higher grade of county commissioners, and we would be in much better shape here in Beaufort County.

It is true; we get the government we deserve.

Thank God for Lynn that my first and second versions did not get published.

They will see the light of day when needed in some representable iteration of truth. Mostly a truth of how incorrigible handlers can turn a willing dupe into a politically illiterate 'meat puppet' for their amusement and profit.

These "Three Stooges" are the true villains here for so many definable reasons.

Also, my long enduring thanks to my wife Lynn for seeing the mistakes that eventually get corrected.

Commented on Bullies

You know, I have been accused of being a bully of late by those that are not use to some of us taking strong political stands. It is as if the word 'bully' is being trashed by Liberals, much like the word 'gay' was trashed just a few decades ago.

Soon, the word 'bully' will begin to lose its strength of meaning if it continues to be misused by those that confuse strength of character with that which denotes poor character.

The irony is that most of those that cry 'bully', or 'racist', or whatever (supplant your favorite adjective) so conveniently have never stood up to a real bully before. Maybe that is why they don't know what a real one looks like.

Hey Clifton,

Thank-you for your suggestion, but believe on this one issue: Once you knwo yu are in the grips of this Bear of a bug, there is no eating of anything, even Navel oranges, which I dearly love, for the next 16 to 36 hours.

There is no need. Nothing will stay down.

I was force feeding myself small quantities of fluids - trying to keep them down - just so I would not dehydrate.

One word of advice when one has a stomach bug or an intestinal virus: Don't try working seriously on your computer. Twice it has sent me to the porcelain throne for the worst kind of relief.

But with a virus such as this, the outcome, or is it outflow, is always the inevitable.

I, Stan Deatherage, initiated the early revaluation here in Beaufort County, which did pass by a 4 to 3 vote - follow the link above in Gene's post for the details.

An early revaluation is simply an attempt to correct the inequity of how much each of us pay in property taxes.

As many of you may know, Washington native Alex Thalmann was shot while performing his duty as a New Bern police officer. Today at one o'clock pm, Officer Thalmann succumbed to his wounds, leaving a life unlived, while serving his fellow man earnestly all of his adult life as a Marine, and now an officer of the law.

I thought it most appropriate that Alex should be remembered and eulogized by our Governor.

We should all be thankful for men like Alex. He was best of us all.

We owe his good spirit a debt of immeasurable gratitude.

I'll relay this question to John Hood, the writer of this of this editorial.

John is the president of the John Locke Foundation, the publisher of the Carolina Journal, and, therefore, is a pretty busy guy, so will just have to see if he has the time.

'All that glitters is not Gold.'

Good politicians learn that maxim, or the exact reverse of it, or eventually, most will get found out. Hood and I are doing our best to help with that.

Commented on Nan Purvis Lanier

This is absolutely the toughest obituary I have had to post since I have been doing this as part of my daily duties here at BCN.

Nan is the same age as my oldest daughter, and they were good friends. I remember Nan's bright smile when she was three and four years old, and although we have lost touch over the years, Nan's smile - in pictures I have recently seen - has not been diminished by the years or by her infirmity.

I pray that our dear Lord has a special place for His sweet child that he has now called home.

God Bless you Nan.

We will soon be publishing a fine article by Stephanie, her first with us, which will have scores of outstanding pictures, videos, an interactive map, and more.

It will be published in two installments, with galleries, so stay tuned.

Thanks for using us, for we will be getting periodic updates.

They are good kids, and their product is first rate: Eric uses two 'high octane' Cannon SLRs, with a 1080p motion picture function (one always remote controlled). Annabel does the audio, which is so important because words actually do matter.

The mixing and editing is first rate.

I'm looking forward to the finished product.

'That's a bingo.'

I asked in closed session to them: Why are you 'carrying the water' for the Pungo LLC? I got no reply.

This deal has limited downside if crafted properly. Since Hood and I get to be of 'tip of the spear' of doing something here, rather than voting NO against their constant stupid stuff; it will be done right.

Publisher's note: This post magnificently proves one inescapable truth, BCN will publish anyone's position on any reasonable topic, providing that it is reasonably well presented.

Personally, I strongly believe that Ronald Reagan was the best president of my lifetime, and second place is not even close. If not for Ronald Reagan, I probably would not have seen the proverbial light as soon as I did, and thereby not switched teams to play long and hard for the 'The Gipper'.

God rest RWR's good soul!

I actually do not know. I have been slammed lately with much too much work to make money to pay my staff and I could not attend.

I do know that Hood debated the side of a Constitutional Convention, so at some point soon, I should have a report.

If the sheriff is not managing the upkeep of the jail, then he should have someone doing it for him, and then he would have someone to fire.

If the sheriff is at fault only, then the voters are the truest, best firing mechanism.

Remember, the commissioners, and some of them drug kicking and screaming, began interjecting their slight authority to represent the taxpayer's interest in that jail when the prisoners were evacuated, and Hood has the political scares to prove it.

And then again, the Gang of Four may only be motivated only by the vision of building a new industrial jail 6 miles south of the county seat.

You know, someone should relate that to them. The article might just boost their flagging readership.

Plus, I would get one more chunk of rich humor in my life; not that there is not aplenty already

Now this is some funny stuff right here from zoominfo (at least I got a link out of it):

Al Klemm Board Memberships and Affiliations -

Beaufort County Commissioner

Chairman The Down East Republican Club

Board Member Beaufort County Now

We run BCN with me and a part time employee, and we both do many tasks beyond BCN, and still get over 5,500 readers per day.

No, I don't need any board members, but if I did it would probably be someone of Hood's caliber. There is no way I would spend one more minute of my life hearing Klemm discuss the 'metrics of cost / benefit analysis'.

We originally posted this announcement the day we got it like we try to do with all other submissions. What you saw was us just moving the announcement back to the front page.

BCN is a dynamic site that posts the most articles than any other cyber site in northeastern NC, so the site doesn't keep one post on the front page for long; however, that announcement was probably on the Op-Ed / Politics section component front page for a longer duration.

The announcement has still got close to 900 views so far, so it was quite effective. Plus, the event was also listed in our events calendar, which we are now beginning to maintain again.

This link better explains how BCN must work to do all it can, and does do: beaufortcountynow.com

Thanks for using BCN.

I will not be on the Beaufort County Commissioner Agenda for this meeting.

I can not find conclusive evidence, through my research, that states that the American flag can not get wet when flown at half-staff. From what I found it is fine for Old Glory to to be soaked if it is flown at half-staff.

If anyone knows of any difference from this, please let me know?

Back in 1994, when I first got my first very rapid lesson in governing, I learned about Democrat politics and bi-partisanship, and I have never shook their logic.

Democrat politics identifies bi-partisanship as 'Do it our way'.

Establishment Republicans remind me so very much of Democrats in their desire for the 'Big Tent' approach to party building. They also are so very much like Democrats in their apparent philosophy of 'Do it our way'. I think it has something to do with the 'Big tent'.

As someone who has been fighting hard and well in that trench for some time, please understand that removing RINOs is easier said than done.

The best we can do is shine a very bright light on them, so everyone can see the benefit of their actions.

We have an election coming up very soon, with a primary. Let's beat their RINO candidates at the polls, and let that be our statement. It is a fine statement to make.

I grant you this: They are not ashamed of what they have done, and at some point they will be named.

I have started what will be a short piece about this, with possibly more to follow and I will name names as I know them.

There are RINOs here amongst us, and they must be celebrated as they probably wish it to be.

I put all these press releases up, on counties far away, because folks are interested in what our North Carolina government is doing.

We, our government and ourselves, are like one giant organism that uses part of the host to feed the other part.

Now what is the name for that other part?
