Yes, lets look at the origins of these "Republicans" who function as Democrats once in office.

Frankie Waters was a political unknown when he first filed for office, apparently out of his own personal ambition. Only later was it learned that he had been a Democrat all his life until a few months before filing as an instant "Republican" or that he and his wife were still making Democrat political contributions even after he was running as a "Republican." The big issue that election year was fighting against the expensive and unnecessary big new jail that was proposed. Waters told the Stop the Jail Committee that he was against the jail and got their endorsement, helping him win conservative votes. Later it turned out he was not being truthful about his position on the jail.

Longtime Democrat Randy Walker ran for county commissioner as a Democrat and lost, but decided to try to rebrand himself as a "Republican" and try again. In his primary, he spouted all the right words about taxes and spending. He managed to convince Hood;s Conservative Club to buy his yard signs for him. He hired Ashley Woolard as his consultant for social media and had Woolard run a "no new taxes" social media ad campaign in the primary. As soon as the primary was over, he directed Woolard to take down the "no new taxes" online campaign. It had got him past the primary. He did not want to talk about taxes any more. Walker also stiffed Woolard on Woolard's fee AND the money Woolard had advanced to Facebook to "boost" Walker's ad campaign.

I have the very same concerns about having a major political contributor to liberal Democrat Marc Basnight as our "Republican" NC House nominee.

Waters and Walker pulled the wool over the eyes of a lot of people to get elected. It is a cautionary tale about supporting people who suddenly come out of the woodwork for political office.

In the last Michigan primary, two members of the same family were cheated out of their votes on election day by someone voting in their name by mail. Both say they have never in their lives voted by absentee. Elon Musk did an interesting chart showing how the left in the American political spectrum just kept marching farther left to the extreme, so that Musk himself kept his same views but what had made him left of center in an earlier time now made him right of center. Not an excuse, just common sense. If the legislature can do anything about smart meters, the local legislator to contact is conservative State Senator Bob Brinson. He is, like Kidwell, a full spectrum conservative and a real Republican, but is not a lame duck like Kidwell has been since the primary. Smart meters are a horrible idea all the way around, and trying to talk sense into the city council will be tough.

The license plate reading Flock surveillance cameras required state legislation to get off the ground, and Kidwell led the successful fight for years to block that.

Good points. Those Flock surveillance cameras are a Stalinist assault on our privacy. Making them permanent was placed in the Budget bill by the Senate, meaning the only way to stop it was voting down the entire budget, something nobody in the legislature had any stomach for. Kidwell and the Freedom Caucus was able to block the Flocks for years until RINOs used an excused medical absence by Kidwell to slip it into a bill at the last minute. Apparently nobody else in the Freedom Caucus was in the "read every bill" including the last minute changes mode like Kidwell was.

Genuine conservatives are waking up to the totalitarian threat of Flock cameras and the computer network that coordinates them. Texas Governor Greg Abbott just issued an executive order blocking use of state funds for them in his state. We need a lot more vigilant conservatives like Abbott and Kidwell.

The system on the BO will not let me revise my comment below, but I wanted to point out that the recent study on the impact of illegal immigration on housing costs came from the Federal Reserve.

Also, while I agree that Whatley was not my first choice as a candidate, and in fact I voted for someone else in the primary, he is now the only game in town to try to stop corrupt leftwinger Roy Cooper.

There are two Flock license plate reader cameras at Lowes, one near the highway at each of the entrances. They have solar panels on top for power and are painted black so you don't notice them. They send the data on every license plate that enters Lowes to the national computer bank operated by Flock and stored there. Some Flock systems also collect data on electronic devices like cell phones that may be in each car, but it is not certain if these cameras have that capability. All of them record licenses plates and send that data to Flocks national database.

The polls show that a significant majority of Americans are concerned about fraud in out election system. Democrat politicians resist any effort ot fix it. Recently, a town council in Texas defied a huge standing room only crowd of angry citizens and unanimously approved planning permission for a massive Islamic complex. Now citizens are circulated recall petitions to force a recall election, as can be done under Texas law, to remove the mayor and the entire town council which did that from office.

So Rorie was hired on April Fools Day? If, as some have posted, his hiring was in closed session and no public vote taken, the joke may be on him, as that may bring his contract into question.

It seems that the Sadler boys, Tyree and Horton, headed the lynch mob, and the others joined in. One wonders what the agenda of Tyree and Horton is on this matter? It may put the city in a worse place than with Rorie. Rorie was no prize, but we may go from the frying pan into the fire.

Will Rorie get another golden parachute like the last "fired" city manager?

then there is the question of who would undertake to be acting city manager. Bobby Roberson did a great job, in spite of some council members, but given everything that has happened, it is doubtful he would consider it again.
