Commented on Bill Clinton 1995 State of Union extractI agree. The best way to defang a word or symbol is through overuse or usurping it. I have tongue in cheek advocated that the NAACP adopt Dixie as its theme song and the Stars and Bars as its flag. Perhaps then, it can be purged of all the negative connotations they find so offensive and return to just a symbol of past history in a flawed country struggling to find its way.
“He drew a circle that shut me out- Heretic , rebel, a thing to flout. But love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle and took him In !" From the poem " Outwitted” ― Edwin Markham

Commented on On "Common Sense Legislation"You make some very good points. I suspect that politicians using "common sense" is the last step before resorting to "name-calling". As in you are a "insert your favorite pejorative name here." Who could disagree with a common sense point unless they were a "insert your favorite pejorative name here."

Commented on Giant Sucking SoundSorry, I followed you link ( in last line) to your blog and found the article from 2010 interesting but noticed the ad at the bottom. I know that Blooger.com does not normally allow ads until you get sufficient audience. But I forgot that they are probably rotating ads. The one I saw advertised maternity clothes. It was just a convoluted joke about a good blog post and I am not used to minimalist comments. Sorry.

Commented on The Origins of Labor DayBobby Tony's idea of Labor Day (plagiarized from 1963 John Wayne McLintock)back when life was simpler I guess.
Devlin Warren: Just one minute, Mr. McLintock. My father died last month, that's how come we don't have a homestead. I've got a mother, a little sister to feed. I need that job badly. George Washington McLintock: What's your name? Devlin Warren: Devlin Warren. George Washington McLintock: Well, you've got a job. Go see my home ranch forman. He's over by the corral. Devlin Warren: Step down off that carriage, mister! George Washington McLintock: [Swings and McLintock and gets thrown to the ground] Hold that hog leg! I've been punched many a time in my life but never for hirin' anyone. Devlin Warren: I don't know what to say. Never begged before. Turned my stomach. I suppose I should have been grateful that you gave me the job. George Washington McLintock: Gave? Boy, you've got it all wrong. I don't give jobs I hire men. Drago: You intend to give this man a full day's work, don'tcha boy? Devlin Warren: You mean you're still hirin' me? Well, yes, sir, I certainly deliver a fair day's work. George Washington McLintock: And for that I'll pay you a fair day's wage. You won't give me anything and I won't give you anything. We both hold up our heads. Is that your plug? Devlin Warren: Yes sir. George Washington McLintock: Well, hop on him and we'll go get your gear.

Commented on Giant Sucking SoundHaving a successful blog requires a link from another site and a pregnancy ad all on the same page. You know you have arrived when blogger.com allows ads on your articles. Good work Alex.

Commented on Award Recognizes Diversity At ECUHow can you legitimately determine diversity when everyone can self-identify as xxxx. I call BS on this because it does not cover the mixed_idenity crowd which I think includes almost everyone.
Do they use a DNA test to verify diversity?

Commented on TMc: Amateur Gun Review of Walther P22Even though I am trying to reduce my collection, this looks like a great plinker semi. I have always preferred Walther pistols. German weapons are precision made and well designed. However since I have not shot in over eight years, it would be a great gun safe placeholder.

Commented on Labor Day Memories - I only have one so farNow, I could be wrong but I think to properly play this song you need a certain special ingredient. Look at the lead singer. This is a classic studio song that is hard to lip sync and sing along.
Hey man, dig this.

Commented on Labor Day Memories - I only have one so farI have not tried The letter yet, but I think you are right. The vocals are as much an integral part of playing as the chords. Here is a link that shows the chords over the original Box top songs.

Commented on Plants need love tooOkay I'll admit it. I actually had to research Soylent Green. I don't think I've ever seen the movie all the way through.
Even though the movie was 1973 I should've got a clue when one of the characters actually lived in the building call Chelsea Towers West. Its a small world after all. youtu.be

Since we never really keep our promises, the last bit of information was from John Jones who lives at XXX and is an employee of XXX.

Commented on TMc: Amateur Gun Review of Bersa Thunder .380I have never had a concealed carry permit, but I always was partial to the shoulder holster that 007 used for his trusty Beretta. Sometimes Style over substance is the best alternative. Fortunately, M required Bond, James Bond, to switch from his Beretta to the 7.65 PPK, and the rest as they say is history.

I do remember that movie. Steve was a real social misfit who often played the anti hero, a role that matched his character. He was a anti-authority rebel in real life as well as movie rolls. Of course my favorite McQeeen movie was Bullitt mainly due to the car chase.

Thanks Sabe,
Video 1 gives one room for hope. Video two requires some thought and reasoning. The alternative to Alinsky thinking. Video 3 makes me wonder why we are paying tuition for out kids to be indoctrinated in something that used to be common courtesy. i.e. Bias Incident Response, give me a break. I am in hopes that many will take the time to watch all three but in particular number 2.

I will follow Clint's advice about knowing your limitations. I am aware that my BT persona projects a "greater than thou" façade which does more to alienate than build consensus. I am afraid that both the BT Persona and the real TA piss off all the people including the right and all the others.
