The Beaufort County Schools are not providing much transparency, and their proposed woke social studies curriculum is a case in point. When this was on last month's agenda, they had not provided more than a summary to school board members, yet seem to want them to rubber stamp it, even though that summary showed the curriculum was totally woke. I understnad that some of the new school board members were trying to get access to the whole thing, but haven't heard if they were successful. But it is not just the school board members that ought to see this, it is also the parents. We badly need more transparency in the Beaufort County schools.

The term "woke" was originated by the far left for their radical ideology. Now that those with good sense are pushing back, some on the left, like Bob below, want to run away from their term.

When it comes to education, one must drill down into the "woke" ideology to get to the parts of it that are a direct threat to education. The closely related concepts of CRT and DEI are the main danger. They are Critical Race Theory and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion. As to DEI, the three terms seem positive on the surface, but the left has redefined them to stand them on their heads, like Orwellian Newspeak and the left's twisted definistions are far from positive. In fact they are the opposite of the original meanings.

Equity has been redefined to mean government induced equaity of result, much like Karl Marx called for in the Communist Manifesto. It is the polar opposite of the American concept of equality of opportunity. The term "equity" as spouted by the leftists of today connotes a kind of neo-Marxism that should not be promoted in the schools.

"Diversity" and "inclusion" have also been turned on their heads. Instead of the old definition that involved bringing everyone together and treating them the same, the new leftie definition involves favoring some while disfavoring others. Some groups are lauded as "victims" while others are denounced as "oppressors" just like CRT.

An example of the new use of "inclusion" came from a school board in a Frnech speaking part of Ontario which conducted a book burning of books in their library they did not consider "woke" enough. For example, they burned books about the early Frnech explorers of Canada because they did not approve of their relationships with the native tribes. This school board made a video of their book burning for the students, saying it was an example of "inclusion" and suggested students go home and burn similar books. Book burning is "inclusion"?? Who Knew? But don't let the Nazis find out.

Then there is the new definition of "diversity". The UN held a conference on diversity last year and an Iranian representative got up and advocaaed exterminating the Jewish people. No one seems to have called him down on that monstrosity. So that's it, under these new definitions. If you want to burn books and exterminate a religious group, you are promoting diversity and inclusion. I like the old definitions a whole lot better.

From those who have seen it, the 15 page description of this curriculum from SAVVAS is riddled with these terms, diversity, equity, and inclusion. DEI is equally bad as CRT, and in many ways there is ltttle difference. This is not what we need for the children of Beaufort County.

SAVVAS was rejected in Florida's education department for being too woke. Even SAVVAS' math books had CRT / DEI injected into them. North Carolina's State Board of Education is dominated by leftwing appointees of Roy Cooper. The conservative minority on the state BOE, led by black conservative Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, fought this garbage but were outvoted. So anything pushed by NCDPI is going to be "woke".

Our school board should defend the children of Beaufort County from this leftwing political indoctrination by doing what Florida did and reject SAVVAS and their left wing poison.

Most wokesters on school boards and in school administration are not this blatant. They tend to operate by stealth, and use terms like "diverstiy", "Equity", and "inclusion" as cover, their definition of those terms grossly distorted from their original meaninss. They recognize that people are onto Critical Race Theory so they shy away from that term.

Here in Beaufort County, "woke" has raised its ugly head with the proposal to adopt a woke curriculum for Social Studies that fits in with NCDPI's radical new Social Studies programs. It is highly suspect that this new local program was likely passed from NCDPI to the local superintendant who assembled a committee that would rubberstamp what he asked them to do. It was telling that when conservative school board members questioned that committee about what was in the full plan, not just the sales pitch, they looked like a deer in the headlights, started to stammer, and could not give any answers. That suggested that either they had rubberstamped the proposal without looking at the details themselves, or that they had looked at it, knew it was bad, and did not want to answer. Either way, this SAVVAS curriculum is clearly not what we need.

The more subtle wokesters are sometimes the most dangerous, and so are the useful idiots who go along with things they should not.

One of the most fundamental rules of medicine is "first, do no harm". Procedures that assist patients in self-harm would not pass muster under that principle, whether it is assisted suicide or genital mutilation. But it is clear that someone who supports one type of self harm would likely be okay with another.

Oh, and Big Bob, legal "assisted suicide" is NOT legal in "many" US states. In fact, most Americans doing that have to go abroad to do it.

Agencies like the CPSC and EPA need to be stripped of power to make law through bureaucratic regulations. They should not have the power to do things like this without Congress. A proven, fully tested vaccine is one thing, but an experimental vaccine from a new process that is far from fully tested is quite another, and the mRNA vaccines for Covid fall into the latter category. No one should be compeeled to take them, and government agencies that promote them should give full discloaures and warnings. As it turned out, the herd immunity approach, that was proposed early on by one of the world's leading virologists and epidemiologists at Oxford University, was the best way to go, not the totalitarian lockdowns. Sweden proved that herd immunity worked best. Its public health authorities are to be commended, unlike those like Fauci who followed Red China. Chine is proving right now that lockdowns are a time bomb that will eventually blow up on you.
