Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory signed legislation today which provides increased health care options for those needing medical care at their own homes. House Bill 625 exempts temporary health care structures from zoning ordinances, adult care licensing rules and lodging laws when placed on properties with a single family home, making health care more accessible to those who need it the most.

"This bipartisan legislation will provide an alternative for families to care for loved ones on their own property, instead of placing them in hospitals or other state facilities," said Governor McCrory. "I'm proud to sign this bill that will make it easier for people with disabilities to live or reside with their families while receiving the care they need."

Temporary health care structures are small residential structures with health care amenities that are placed on properties with single family homes as a stand-alone building. They are intended to provide extra space for at-home health care, particularly when a family has limited space in the house and is taking care of a sick relative.

Primary bill sponsors for House Bill 625 were Reps. Moffitt, Howard, Setzer and Ramsey.

Governor McCrory has also signed House Bill 201, House Bill 27, Senate Bill 883, House Bill 101 and House Bill 1193.
