Two appointed to BCCC Foundation board | Eastern North Carolina Now


    Two area residents have joined the Board of Directors of the Beaufort County Community College Foundation. Appointed to the board were Derek T. Kelly and Kendra Windley, Foundation Director Judy Meier Jennette announced recently.

    Kelly is the manager of market development at Century Link, formerly Embarq, and now handles public media and community relations in eastern North Carolina. He has worked in several departments for CenturyLink over the years including Technical Support, Customer Service, Voice Repair, Sales and Management. Kelly began work with Embarq in 2004 and was located in Pennsylvania before spending a year in Kansas City. In 2006, he moved to New Bern.

    Kelly is active in civic affairs throughout the region. He is an active supporter of Big Brother/Big Sister, the Special Olympics and the United Way. Kelly is married to the former Cammie Kirby, a native of Wilson County. The couple lives in Greenville.

    Windley is employed with the Beaufort/Hyde Partnership for Children and serves as a consultant for faith-based and grassroots groups in North and South Carolina. Windley graduated from Northside High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she studied communications with a concentration in media production and African-American studies. Windley also received additional training through the Duke University Nonprofit Certificate program, N.C. Rural Center and the N.C. Center for women in Public Service.

    Windley is the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Kenneth Windley of Belhaven. Among other civic activities, Windley is a member of the Beaufort County Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and the City of Washington Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. She lives in Washington.

    Established in 1984, the BCCC Foundation is the charitable, non-profit arm of Beaufort County Community College, whose mission is to raise money to provide scholarships for students. Through the Foundation, generous donors provide support for scholarships, institutional programs, faculty and staff development and facility improvements. Activities of the Foundation are overseen by a 28-member Board of Trustees comprised of civic and business leaders from BCCC's four-county service area.

    Currently, the BCCC Foundation maintains over 44 individual endowments and receives annual contributions from over 20 civic clubs, businesses and individuals that provide scholarships for students. To date, the BCCC Foundation holds assets of more than $1 million. The BCCC Foundation also raises about $12,000 a year from its annual golf and croquet tournaments.

First Panhellenic endowment is tribute to sisterhood
