    Good Afternoon Everyone,

    Our office is currently monitoring an increasing risk of tornados as an approaching costal storm moves through our area today and tomorrow. Forecast details for Beaufort Co. can be found below.

    Rain

  • Most areas are forecasted to receive 3 to 4 inches of rain over the next 24 hrs.
  • Our heaviest rains are expected between 4pm and midnight tonight.

    Thunderstorms & Tornados

  • Strong storms capable of producing several tornados are possible with this passing system.
  • Our greatest chance of experiencing strong storms / tornados will be during the overnight hours tonight. (Between 8pm and 5am)

    Winds

  • NE winds sustained between 12 and 20 mph, with gust of 25 to 30 are expected through midnight.

    Coastal Flooding

  • A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for Beaufort Co., with most of our waterways receiving 1 to 3 feet.

    Please see the email below and attached briefing from the National Weather Service for more information.

    We encourage everyone to monitor local media outlets for updates. We are also asking everyone to ensure that you, your family, friends and neighbors have a means of being alerted to watches / warnings that may be issued during the overnight hours tonight. (Options include a weather radio, push notification apps on electronic devices, etc. )

    Good morning,

    Wanted to send a quick update to show the increased chances for several tornadoes over Eastern North Carolina this afternoon and tonight. Otherwise, the forecast hasn't changed significantly. We do not plan on sending any more briefings unless anything changes.

    It should be noted that whether or not this system becomes tropical, the impacts for our area including heavy rain and flooding, coastal flooding and a few tornadoes have not changed drastically.

Good afternoon everyone, if you could help us share this information we’d appreciate it:
Our office is monitoring the potential impacts that Hurricane Helene could bring to Eastern NC as we end the work week.
Our office is currently monitoring an increasing risk of tornados as an approaching costal storm moves through our area today and tomorrow.
A Coastal Flood Advisory for our waterways, meaning water levels are expected to be 1 to 2 feet higher than normal.
This morning’s update included both good and bad changes for our area, with another reduction in the total rainfall but an increased threat of tornados.
This afternoon’s update included a reduced threat of storm surge for our area, and an increased concern for downriver flooding for areas along the lower Tar River early next week as a result of inland rainfall.

Debby continues to live up to its reputation of being a difficult storm to forecast, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we navigate these changes in real time.
The afternoon updates have included another increase in expected rainfall amounts, and provided us with additional details related to the timing of our forecasted impacts.
Recent weather updates continue to include minor track and timeline adjustments to Debby’s path along the eastern US, as well as an increase in forecasted rain fall and expected winds for our area.
