Edward Earl Horton Sr., 86, of Washington, NC, passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2025, surrounded by family, after a courageous 12-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Born on November 19, 1938, in Raleigh, NC.

Edward was married for 69 years to the love of his life, Lou Horton. He is survived by his wife and children: Earl Horton and wife Susan of Greensboro, NC and their son Cameron Horton, his wife Megan, and their daughter Elle; Alan Horton and wife Sally of Greenville, NC, and their sons Avery and Carter; Todd Horton of Wilmington, NC; and Brad Horton of Washington, NC, with his children, Meghan Seago and her husband Peyton, Mason, and Emma.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Horton and Odelle Woolard Horton, and brothers William Robert Horton and James Wilbur Horton.

Edward graduated from Washington High School in 1959 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he served for 26 years before retiring in 2001. He also worked at Washington Beverage Company and then at PCS Phosphate before retiring in 2001. He volunteered with the DART team and was a member of the First Church of Christ in Washington, NC. A true handyman, Edward was rarely found without a tool in his hand. He was a die-hard ECU fan who loved watching football and Wheel of Fortune and attending Rock Steady Boxing classes, of which the Washington Chapter was started in his honor.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Home Life Care and Gentiva caregivers for their compassion and care in his final years.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC. The family will receive friends after the service or at their home otherwise.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Edward's memory to 10th Street First Church of Christ in Washington, NC.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Horton family.
