It does seem strange that the Republican memo went through a procedure and vote while the various other leaks to the NYT went without complaint from the Democrats. I doubt that the Republican memo when released will do any more than just increase the distrust of the whole system. Until there is a court trial and conviction, I think the whole affair is nothing more than just partisan bickering and innuendo. I predict that Trey Gowdy may eventually be in charge of the DOJ and if that happens look out.

Commented on The lost people in the middle of the RoadIf in fact, what I believe is true that the political divide is equally divided along 40% / 40% hard liners voters with 10% somewhat ambivalent about the remaining 10% persuadable by a reasoned approach, I wonder why both sides spend so much time preaching to their 40%. Since I always try to follow the money, I think I know the answer is about donors. That in itself is damnation to our political system where money is power as it has always been.
While I do not consider myself a Tea Party Patriot, I do think that it was a grass root revolt that did not require the traditional donor base that all political movements thrive upon. As a layman I have often wondered why so much time and money is spent on solidifying one's base. Perhaps all this is nothing more than a jobs program for politicians. Nawh, that would make me a jaded observer who has lost confidence in our current political process.

Commented on The lost people in the middle of the RoadWith just ten months to go until the mid-term elections, I await the results to see if the personality 'Trumps' the policy and results. Everything I ever learned about sales is based on the premise that the customer must like the salesman before they buy the product. November 2016 turned that adage on its head.
I hear similar comments as my Email friend's comment above from people who I know align philosophically with the President's economic policy. It is refreshing to see a leader say what he thinks when he thinks it, but I often wonder how difficult it is to persuade fence sitters to your side of the argument when you start by insulting them. Since the mid-term election is based on a majority vote instead of an electoral vote, I muse that 50 plus 1 rule might derail this opportunity to put the train back on the track. (Sorry, I could not resist the train analogy since all the pundits are talking about the "Republican Train" that derailed. I never knew a train could be political.) ![]()

Commented on The PODRIDE is a Personal Vehicle AlternativeSince I posted this article, another electric vehicle has been in development. The company is based just a few miles from me and is under development by the former owner of Chateau Elan Winery, which is also a mile or two from me. This is one of your best articles on Click Bait. I too had to resort to the laptop to study White Rose Competition, SJW and WOKE. Thanks to my highly attuned knowledge base I already knew about LGBT and CSA.

Thanks for providing the context of an age-old problem ever since we humans have been on earth. I doubt that there has ever been an instance where having the capability to use tools was not abused by some against others. Society and governments are formed based on a simple concept that "mores and laws" will be followed by the majority of participants.
Technology has increasingly made the tools more accessible to more people. In the process, we may have approached the point where the intersection between Privacy & Appropriateness has begun to fray. It may be inevitable that our current society has become so polarized that the end justifies the means. Like Guns, tools are only as useful as the people who use them, but the old adage about everything looks like a nail when you have a hammer in your hand may be more accurate than ever. If everyone looks like a crook, racist or colluder, then any means is justifiable to the self-appointed or elected guardians. "When mores are sufficient, laws are unnecessary; when mores are insufficient, laws are unenforceable."----- Emile Durkeim

Commented on Here's An Idea for the WallWith all due respect to "Pink Floyd" I offer this tidbit.
I have no doubt that very few people will compare Donald Trump to Thomas Jefferson, but I have a feeling that he knew what he was talking about when he said he was going to build a wall. Many of both sides of the aisle have taken him literally and forgotten that he is a salesman and deal-maker first and often talks in exaggeration, hyperbole, overstatement. One of the first rules of sales is to sell the sizzle and not the steak. Perhaps the Liberals should adopt the same position that they use to regularly beat the rest of us over the head with regarding Religion.. Commented on Musicians and Entertainers – They are not the sameAt the risk of alienating 50% of the audience here is one from 1980 Grammy awards. The backstory of this song could be a post in and of itself. The first version of this was not made by Neil or Barbra but a DJ who dubbed both singles into one duet and put it on the air. It became a hit on the play list of many radio stations. They later recorded the song in studio. This is the first time they actually performed it live. They rehearsed this on the phone and that is why I say Neil is the consummate entertainer. I must add that Barbra is a consummate performer as well.

It is interesting that Neil sang that song when we saw him in 2017. It was the first time he sang it in concert since The Last Waltz. He dedicated it to the victims of terrorism. It was originally written about the assassination, of MLK and RFK. Here is his rendition from The Last Waltz in 1976 (41 years ago). beaufortcountynow.com

Commented on Will core Democrats Shut Down the Government?Stan, I completely agree with you.
Usually football teams that are way behind just before the half with only seconds to go, 80 yards away from scoring and one play left will take a knee at the snap so they can go back to the locker room and regroup their game plan. I suggest that is exactly what the Democrats are doing with this shutdown debacle. They will return to the field with a new strategy in hopes of scoring a few points in the second half. Having said that, it is becoming increasingly clear to me that neither party understands the problem that the American people have with the whole legislative process of bundling bills together to make laws. I suspect most people would prefer an up or down vote on single issues without all the baggage of non-relevant issues included to please some obscure official whose vote is needed to get over the hump. If in this next election every current elected official was replaced with someone from the opposite party only the control of congress from R to D would change hands, but not the antiquated system that all incumbents count on to ensure their continued election. I am not in favor of statutory term limits; we have that power ever two years. What we need is a voting public that understands that the game is not to govern but to get re-elected and to vote accordingly.

Commented on Amazon HQ2 Decision: Tax Rates "Critical"I may be channeling Diane Rufino here, but maybe the States Rights issue is rising to the top of the heap. Some states don't want to follow Federal immigration laws, some states don't want to be bribed to increase funding for medicaid. We are a diverse nation. The Southern abuse of the States Rights on slavery and segregation issue set back the intent of the constitution. (I doubt Diane would agree with this)
Maybe it is time for the states to collect all the taxes and only send to the Federal Government the amount necessary to cover expenses for it limited functions under the constitution. Despite what it looked like, he is on guard duty while we dug in. In keeping with the necessary vigilance due in a hostile environment, we always posted a guard to warn of possible enemy contact. For the record, he had the sole authority to sound the alarm if he sensed danger.

Commented on The Twilight Zone - Updated for 2018There is no doubt that Jim was a great songwriter but to me Operator was made by his lead guitar man Maury Muheleisen who probably could work the fretboard of a guitar better than any contemporary. And of course it was so smooth it seemed simple, that is until you try to reproduce it on your guitar.
With Jim laying down the rhythm track it makes Maury's playing all that more melodic. There are several YouTube tutorials on the lead portion of Operator if you care to take a swing at it. Of course the words almost make me feel like own my best friend stole my girl. That never happened but I will admit that I may have dialed an old girlfriend's number a few times from a phone booth after a night of liquid enlightenment. Here is today's lesson in frustration. beaufortcountynow.com

Commented on The Twilight Zone - Updated for 2018I think Ted is partially correct and Stan's comment sent me to my online dictionary to refresh my memory on Sensei. Defending an enclosed body of water with only one exit or entrance does present a very difficult military dilemma. It is further complicated when you have all your ships lined up in a row and side by side which invites a closer look by potential enemies.
But putting military tactics aside, something in the Japanese perception of America told them it had a good chance of success if they continued to pretend to negotiate while preparing for the attack. Here we are 71 years later playing that same tune again. I prefer the Jim Croce tenet over the Rodney King "Can't we all get along" chant. You don't tug on superman's cape You don't spit into the wind You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger And you don't mess around with Jim ( as in Jim Mattis)

Commented on Amazon HQ2 Decision: Tax Rates "Critical"I agree, Stan. As I understand it not States cannot require a retailer who has no facilities in their state to collect sales tax for internet sales.
The decision is currently in the Supreme Court. I tend to agree that online retailers should pay sales tax for item shipped to other states, but that creates a tremendous burden on small retailers. Amazon and others can handle the state taxation requirements fairly simply but smaller mom and pop shops would need to invest in software to track the collection and payment of sales tax to each state which would put them at an unfair advantage due to the complexity of each state law. Perhaps the best way to handle this is with a single fund to recieve a set percent sales tax for internet orders and then the fund will distribute to each state based on shipments into that state. This issue as well as the sanctuary issue is increasingly bringing States Rights back into the mainstream discussion. Hopefully, this time we can resolve it without a war. www.nbcnews.com

Commented on My first and Last Football Post for 2017After a bit of reflection, I think perhaps coaches like Bear Bryant are no longer too prevalent in the college ranks. He not only coached football he coached life. In 1964 he suspended Joe Namath for the last game of the season and the Sugar Bowl for a breaking team rules.
"Alabama had a bye week before its last regular-season game that season against the University of Miami. Namath planned to watch the Army-Navy football game on TV, but the game was pushed back a few weeks because of the assassination of President Kennedy. Instead, he spent an evening at a local diner where, admittedly, he had literally a few sips of beer. This was a clear violation of Coach Bryant's policy of no alcohol during the season. Bryant heard a rumor that Namath had been drinking over the weekend, so he approached his star quarterback and asked him if it was true. Namath admitted to the few sips of beer (while not mentioning that many of his teammates were drunk at an off-campus party that night). According to Mark Kriegel's excellent book, Namath, after a short deliberation, Coach Bryant told Namath he could allow Namath to continue to play, but to do so would violate Bryant's principles, and the coach would have to resign. Instead, Coach Bryant decided to suspend Namath for the final regular-season game against Miami and for the upcoming Sugar Bowl." Copy this into your search bar "joe namath and the old fashioned view of punishment" to see the complete article. Here is a clip with Joe Namath telling a few stories about Bear Bryant and his character building. When a coach benches his star quarterback before the Sugar Bowl, he has more in mind than football. Alabama did win the game against Ole Miss 12 to 7 in a defensive battle. beaufortcountynow.com

Commented on My first and Last Football Post for 2017I confess, I did not watch the game. I did record it for later viewing. Based on a review of the box scores, it appears to have been a fairly even game in the final analysis. I think you are right about Nick Saban. He obviously is a results oriented coach. Pulling your starting quarterback and replacing him with a Freshman took some real serious fortitude.
In regards to Bear Bryant, there is a story about the championship game in heaven and the Saints are behind the Devils with just a few seconds left to play. Saint Peter asks God what play they should call. God replies, "I don't know, what do out think Bear?" ![]()

Commented on A Soaling - It did not start out as a Christmas SongLike I said above this is good practice for finger dexterity. It is also a pretty good test of the fretting capabilities of a guitar and player. If you stick with the video it goes on to part 2&3
Using the Capo on the second fret make physics of the fret board easier to maneuver thanks to shorter frets. The lyrics capture the spirit of Christmas pretty well also. Now to the Lord sing praises all you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood each other now embrace.. This holy tide of Christmas of beauty and of grace, Oh tidings of comfort and joy.
