I have been busy the past week getting ready for meetings at work so I had not read any of the articles here recently. Last night, January 14th, the Board of Commissioners held a special called meeting to vote on this land issue. When it was over the City of Washington got their cake and ate it too.
The City was paid $125,000 an acre for some really horrible low wet land. They also got to keep the park they have behind the old PS Jones School. The county could have just given them the park and the City would have been happy, but we let them have the park and paid them $500,000 of your tax dollars too. I thought this land swap issue was a no brainer. Everyone I have spoken to said the same thing as me, swap the land. The City has already put a park and bathrooms on it. They have effectively taken control of it, why not make it formal? |

The county continues to spend money on stupid stuff. 4.7 million for wi-fi water meters, 2 million for a building they sold for 1 million, $190,000 for a COVID trailer, and on and on and on. So we spend money stupidly. My grammer isn't always the best but hopefully you get what I mean.

Funny to me how hypocritical your "defund the police" movement is so adamant here in Beaufort County when the Beaufort Observer and BCN has such a strong opinion against other "defund the police" movements happening across the country in states, cities, and towns you know absolutely nothing about.
But that should be the entire point, correct? Forming our opinions based on merit instead of political party? Something Beaufort Observer and BCN has zero interest in doing until it serves the Reublican interest? |

I was not familiar with this story until I stumbled upon Westerby at the early voting site about a week out from the election and he turned his head away from the crowd, and said with a big grin on his face, "an Exocet Missile has been launched out here" Intrigued, I studied up on the battle, and quickly became hip to what was going on when the next time out there I saw the target babbling away on his cell phone as a couple of dozen voters walked right pass him. It reminded me how the air 'defence officer was talking on a satellite phone when the missile hit.

In Defense of my friend, Ernie Coleman.......
I am compelled to rebut some very irresponsible assertions made against Ernie's character, and also on some very hurtful and unfounded statements made about the church of which Ernie is a member and serves as a deacon. First the church issue, because that also affects Me, a fellow member. The word "deacon" comes from the greek word diakonos, which translated means "servant". I stress the word "servant", as opposed to "ruler" or "boss". A little kid walked up to me one day and said, "Are you the boss of this church?" With a warm grin I leaned over and said,"No...I serve the Boss, I'm just another helper" I've always hoped that stuck in his little mind. Ernie is a servant, not a dictorial power pusher around the church. Nobody at Old Ford church is scared of Ernie, child or adult. We're a fellowship of brotherly love and service to our community and abroad to foreign fields of great need through our mission support all over the world. Ernie is one of many who serve and help with whatever the need is. We feel specially comforted to have him in our midst! Jesus said, "Whosever among you who would be great, will be the servant of all". Service is God's standard of greatness, and deacons simply serve. Now concerning other false assertions, I state and will maintain that I have never in eleven years heard any ill or condescending reference come out of Ernie's mouth concerning a person with a different skin tone than his own. I have heard Ernie state, on the contrary, that he is appreciative of the non-combative and the gentlemanly good nature of his opponent running also for sheriff. Two good men are running for sheriff...that's fantastic! Almost unheard of! I thank God for that. Maybe a new day is dawning! Eddie Bowen, minister (servant) with the Old Ford Church of Christ. |
