Attorney discusses misuse of law to limit property use

RALEIGH - The Map Act is "like a drug" for the N.C. Department of Transportation, allowing the department to limit development and other uses of targeted properties until the time and price are right for DOT acquisition.

That's a key argument Winston-Salem-based attorney Matthew Bryant made during a presentation Monday to the John Locke Foundation's Shaftesbury Society. Bryant is representing property owners in communities across North Carolina in a series of lawsuits against DOT.

In the video clip below, Bryant discussed the state's interest in using the Map Act to restrict properties targeted for future road projects.
