UNC-CH professor shares themes from book 'Apostles of Reason'

RALEIGH - American evangelicals have been portrayed as a monolithic bloc that opposes science and believes in the literal truth of every word of the Bible. That story lies far from the truth, according to a University of North Carolina scholar who has studied the history of evangelicalism since the earliest days of the American colonies.

Dr. Molly Worthen, assistant professor of history at UNC-Chapel Hill, tells that history in the book Apostles of Reason: The Crisis of Authority in American Evangelicalism. She shared key themes from the book Monday during a presentation to the John Locke Foundation's Shaftesbury Society.

In the video clip below, Worthen challenges popular misconceptions about evangelicals.
