Mrs. Della Mae Taylor Stubbs, 92, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at The Courtyards in New Bern.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Stubbs was a longtime resident of Greenville, formerly of Washington and Chocowinity. She was born in Beaufort County, the daughter of the late William Rufus and Dolly Taylor of Chocowinity. Mrs. Stubbs retired from the City of Greenville working in the city clerk’s office, as well as prior service as a police officer. She was an active member for years of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Greenville. She spent all of her life in service to her family and in later years helping to care for her father and two of her sisters during long illnesses. She loved to harvest produce for her family at nearby farms, which she always shared with neighbors and friends, and loved to tend her flowers in her yard. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling within the United States, especially New England, Washington, D.C., the West Coast and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She also served as a volunteer in the Pitt County Board of Elections, and she received her 60 years of membership award in the Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star. Not only was she a mother, but she was a best friend to each of her children, and was an inspiration of love and selflessness to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Hunter Stubbs.

She is survived by her daughters, Glenda Gilgo and husband Bill of New Bern and Peggie Washburn and husband Michael Heningburg of Silver Spring, Md.; her son, Van Stubbs and wife Jane of Greensboro; grandchildren, Chuck Gilgo and Kip Gilgo of New Bern, Marty White of Grantsboro, Erik Stubbs of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and Alana Stubbs of Greensboro; 10 great-grandchildren, and her brothers, Lloyd Taylor and Haskell Taylor, both of Chocowinity.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Greenville, 204 Brinkley Rd., Greenville, NC 27858, or United Hospice-Coastal Carolina, 1310 Helen Avenue, New Bern, NC 28560.

Arrangements are by Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville.
