Election Day in Beaufort County | Eastern North Carolina Now

It is important to vote, but much more important to know the difference between the worthy and the worthless. If you have been keeping up with the political commentary in BCN, you would well know that we have fully expressed our position as to who possess the "right stuff" to serve in this Republic. On this issue of politician competency, we do believe that we have the experience to know "the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

And downright ugly it has been, especially in the Republican primary for two seats to represent us in Raleigh: NC Senate District 1, and NC House, District 6. In both races, the sophistic, and heavy-handed Republican House and Senate Caucuses believe that they can best pick our representatives by lending their support behind two liberal Democrats-turned Republicans: Realtor Jerry Evans, candidate for the Republican nominee NC Senate, District 1 and former Democrat NC House Rep. Arthur Williams, candidate for the Republican nominee NC House, District 6. Follow the links above and you will witness that we have provided copious information and commentary on both.

By contrast the Republican primary for NC House, District 3, contest has been the epitome of civility, with all candidates having Republican credentials, and a Conservative vision for North Carolina's future. This race featuring Wayne Langston from Beaufort County, Clayton Tripp and Michael Speciale from Craven, has been the proverbial calm in the aforementioned political storm that is eastern North Carolina's political climate this season.

Another controversial race in our neighboring counties in the NC Senate, District 2, contest featuring Randy Ramsey versus Incumbent Norman Sanderson. In this race, it is reported by some, that, once again, the overarching sophistry of the Republican House and Senate Caucuses are influencing this match-up. This race, like the other controversial races in Beaufort County, has been well reported in this publication.

In the primary race for Beaufort County Commissioner, there are two primary contests - one between the Democrat candidates and one between the Republican candidates. In the Democrat and Republican primaries, there will be 4 candidates to move forward for 4 seats on the Beaufort County Commission.

First the Democrat primary: It really is about "Race," and "Limited Voting" effects that. To that end, Incumbent Jerry Langley is the only Black seeking this elected office, and he will win this one seat now, and in the General Election, November 6, 2012. The significance as to the rest of that primary race is actually a contest as to who win right to move forward. In this race, this year, one other Democrat has a fighting chance to win, and a second candidate has a much slimmer chance to win in the General Election against the Republicans.

It began as a light rain Thursday night, January 20th, with temperatures a balmy 46 degrees, and by morning a thin layer of ice clung to the firm, bright reddish green Nandina leaves prevalent upon my personal grounds here in Mac'swood.

Sunsets are a natural phenomenon, and always a process where one can estimate that the evening will produce a magnificent sunset, but, one can never be altogether sure until it either happens, or the light of the day unceremoniously just turns dark.
