What's happened to Tandy Dunn | Eastern North Carolina Now

Tandy did not sound like his old self at the candidate forum

ENCNow

The old Tandy Dunn had been a champion for the taxpayers, blasting what he called rightly "stupid spending" and pledging to stand up for the taxpayers.  At the candidate forum last week, however, Tandy seemed to have done a Jekyl and Hyde transformation.  He avoided talking about taxes or spending, and kept sounding like Frankie Waters trying to do everything for everybody at the taxpayers' expense.  Has Tandy gone over to the dark side?  Voters need to know before they cast their votes.

The county continues to spend money on stupid stuff. 4.7 million for wi-fi water meters, 2 million for a building they sold for 1 million, $190,000 for a COVID trailer, and on and on and on. So we spend money stupidly. My grammer isn't always the best but hopefully you get what I mean.

Tandy when you said in the comment below "We continue to spend money stupid." Did you mean stupidly or were you someone here is stupid?

I answered the questions asked. They only gave a limited amount of time on the opening statement (less than what I was told) .

No to raising taxes
No to wasteful spending
Not trying to be anybody else but who I am.
No to a new jail
No to a continuation budget

In the time frame allowed you just don't have time to speak on everything. I have said all the things you are concerned about in the past and have not changed my stance.

We continue to spend money stupid. I blasted the 4.7 million dollar water meters, the expensive non-native palm trees, and building a 2 million dollar building only to sell it for 1 million. These were still stupid.

I really don't know what else I can do. I have paid for all my ads and signs myself since the primary.
The reason I was not at Monday's forum was because I was on a business trip I paid for in February. One that I have had to miss for the past couple of years.
I have run out of space for any more comments.

Thank you for clarify thing. I did not even know there were going to be any forums much less 2 of them.

There were two different forums. Tandy Dunn attended the first one at the Turnage Theater sponsored by the Realtors, but not the second one at the Coummunity College sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Washington Daily News. He just sent a written statement to the second one.

Now I am confused, this makes it sound like Tandy Dunn was there in person, but in this article www.beaufortcountynow.com it states:
"The only other candidate not to attend was Tandy Dunn, who pointed out he had an out of town business meeting that had been scheduled for months. Dunn also gave a written statement that focused on how we do not need to spend any more money on a jail after the $2 million that has been spent recently."
So how could Tandy not sound like his old self if he was NOT there?

We sure do need to know. If I don't know for sure where he stands come election time, I will not be voting for him.
