AM Update (3/30/23) - Wind & Severe Weather Potential - This Week | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

    Good Morning Everyone,

    Our office continues to monitor this weekend's forecast, which includes windy conditions, as well as the possibility of severe storms on Saturday. There were no significant changes to this morning's update from the National Weather Service. The current forecast for Beaufort County remains as follows:

    Winds

    South winds are expected to increase Friday and remain elevated through noon on Sunday as follows:

  • Friday: S winds sustained between 15 and 20 mph, with gust of 20 - 25 mph.
  • Saturday: S winds transitioning to SW sustained between 20 and 25 mph, with gust of 30 - 40 mph. (Especially between 1pm and 7pm)
  • Sunday: SW winds transitioning to the N sustained between 10 and 15 mph, with gust of 15 to 25 through noon.

    Severe Weather

    Confidence in the development of a line of potentially severe storms that will move across the state on Saturday is increasing. Current forecast models suggest the greatest risk of storms will occur between 11am and 7pm.

    Good Morning,

    No significant changes to the forecast for Saturday, with strong winds, coastal impacts, and the potential for strong to severe storms still the primary concerns. Confidence in winds and coastal impacts continues to increase, with the threat for severe weather hopefully coming into better focus within the next 24 hours.

At the December Board meeting, the Golden LEAF Board of Directors awarded $5,540,432 in funding for 50 projects through the Food Distribution Assistance Program.

Members of the North Carolina Rural Health Association (NCRHA) visited Washington, D.C., on Feb. 14, 2024, to meet with elected officials and advocate for policies to improve access to care in rural areas.
