    Mr. James Robert "Sonny" Williams, age 80, a resident of 97 CBH Lodge Rd., Washington, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, October 25, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Tony Krantz and Ethan Coltrain. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Harris Ray Alligood, Lee Drake, Frank Gurner, Hoyt Haddock, Pete Lee and Ward Bullock will serve as pallbearers.

    Mr. Sonny was born in Martin County on January 5, 1933 to the late James and Laura Griffin Williams. On May 3, 1953 he married Tillie Joyce Woolard who preceded him in death on December 31, 2005. He was a 1951 graduate of Farm Life High School and was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ where he served as elder and deacon. Sonny worked in the car business in Washington straight out of high school for many years and was employed with Smith-Mills Pontiac Buick for 25 years and later with Lee Chevrolet for 30 years.

    Survivors include two sons, James "Strawberry" Williams and wife Sharon, Michael Wayne Williams and wife Donna all of Washington, three grandchildren, Jason Williams and wife Jade, Beth Latham and husband Stephen, Macon Williams and wife Renay, one great grandson, Wyatt Latham and nephews, Jimmie and wife Debbie Mobley of Garner, Billy Mobley of Williamston and Phillip Mobley of Jamesville. Two sisters preceded him in death, Fannie Dell Mobley and Maggie Gardner.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
