The straight scoop on gun rights and the NC House primary Kidwell vs. Armstrong | Eastern NC Now

the choice is cleare

ENCNow

In elementary school, there was always the kid who claimed "the dog ate my homework". Now we have an NC House candidate making an equally absurd excuse for why he gets bad ratings from gun rights organizations.

In the 79th NC House District, the National Rifle Association rates incumbent conservative Keith Kidwell an A+ on his positions on gun rights and ranks his opponent Darren Armstrong an F.  The NRA has endorsed Kidwell.

Similarly, the state's most prominent gun rights organization, Grassroots North Carolina gives Kidwell its highest rating on his stands on gun rights, and Darren Armstrong a zero. GRNC has also endorsed Kidwell.

Now Armstrong's brother has made a social media post that is the equivalent of "the dog ate my homework" as an excuse for Armstrong's poor ratings.   He claims Armstrong returned the issue surveys to both groups but they were gobbled up in the Postal Service. He makes a similar excuse for why Armstrong failed to answer the issue questionaire of the NC Values Coalition, a social issues conservative group that compiles the iVoters Guide..  Armstrong obviously sent them his picture, but NOT his positions on issues.

Come on! Three separate organizations and the postal service lost ALL of those questiionares?  Do they think voters are stupid?

Let's look at what is really going on.  Armstrong is trying to run an issues-free campaign. His website does not give any stands on any issues.  In his presentations, Armstrong avoids issues, and if he has to say anything about them answering questions, he punts, either talking generalities or saying he hasn't made up his mind.  That is why he does not want to answer questionaires of organizations that want specifics on where he stands.

Armstrong does not want to tie himself down on issues because his campaign is dependent on hundreds of thousands of dollars of special interest money being spent on his behalf in the primary, much of it "dark money" where nobody knows where it really comes from..  If elected, he would owe his political soul to these special interest PACs, and he does not want to tie himself down to commitments to voters on issues that might go against the wishes of the special interests funding the flood of postcards, TV, and other media spent on Armstrong's behalf

One question voters will need to answer on March 3 will be "is our district for sale to the special interests"?

Now why would anyone suspect Armstrong of being anti-gun? Maybe because the guy who recruited him to run, Rep. Jimmy Dixon was the anti-gun holdout who has been preventing a veto override over Josh Stein so we could pass concealed carry. Or maybe it is his endorsement, which he constantly parade,s by anti-gun liberal Raleigh RINO Steve Troxler.
