The Beaufort County Schools and Beaufort County Community College sponsored a candidate forum Tuesday September 30, 2014 at Washington High School. All of the candidates for Beaufort County Commission, Senate District 1 and House District 6 were present.

The specific issue that brought it out at the September meeting was Jerry Langley's attempts to stifle items being put on the agenda for debate that he does not want the public to see how the majority is dealing with them.

The constitutions (U. S. and N. C.) took a severe beating from Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens Monday (10-13-14) when he ruled that his opinion of the "way things should be" trumped what the national and state constitutions say very clearly.

Bottom line: Elections in North Carolina and Beaufort County are determined by those who do NOT vote.

The trivial and oppositional intolerance of political and other board meetings drives some people up the wall. Others see it as one of the necessities of a democratic form of government.

Never fails. The left-wing Public Policy Polling is backtracking. Just last week they were reporting that Thom Tillis was going to win the GOP Primary in a cakewalk.

Beaufort Observer endorses incumbent county commissioner, Stan Deatherage, as its top pick for the Republican nomination for commissioner, with Candidate Keith Kidwell as their second choice.

Early voting is over. Tuesday is Election Day. Those who have not yet voted either have not had the chance to do so or are still undecided. Thus, we review our Tea Leaves of what's involved in this election.
