Pilot Mountain, the inspiration for the Mount Pilot town in the classic Andy Griffith Show, is now a burnt cinder, with its great nob rising high above the piedmont hills, now resembling the remnants of a burnt matchhead.

So sad since Pilot Mountain is an iconic landmark in Stokes County, just minutes from Winston Salem up Hwy 52.

I have hiked its high trails many times, with the 360 degree of the hill strewn piedmont plateau far below.

Decades prior to now, back when Beaufort County Commissioner Frankie Waters was an active Democratic supporter of Leftist ideals, Republican county commissioners Hood Richardson and Stan Deatherage were in diligent pursuit of full transparency in Beaufort County's premier local government. When Frankie Waters left the Democrat Party to join the Republican Party, shortly before that general election of 2014, to seek the office of Beaufort County Commissioner Commissioner prior to that 2014 election, he carried close the political baggage of the Democratic mission, and keeps it at the ready at every meeting henceforth.

Well ... I am vaccinated and I try to spend as much time outdoors as possible, which can be brutal sometimes.
